Qualified engineers over here are ten-a-penny so your CV will need to heavily emphasis (a) specific experience and (b) areas of specialist capabilities. There's plenty of work around, though, if you're prepared to be very flexible in terms of location, salary and contract length:

in the UK what can I expect?? don't be the A-typical naive spam student....

you will be mugged up by other students and taken for a ride.

and they wont respect your constitutional rights as an American.

it will be a good trip just for the experience tho.

bsc/beng - you will go onto the incorporated engineer career path with the ICE

Meng/msc - you will go onto the chartered engineer path with the ICE

incorporated engineers can do most jobs so don't worry. chartered engineers will go onto project management etc

site work and consultancy work is very different. you should probably look into site work if you are looking for something different. you get paid more.

engineering jobs are not easy to get here. usually there are multi-stage interviews and assessment days for consultancy, in my experience.

check out the Institute of Civil Engineers web site for information.

most importantly everything is metric, if you don't like that your stuffed!

Makes science and engineering easier. All of my engineering classes were mixed US and metric.
