Speed Limite Enforce by Aircraft...
hmm interesting.
I don't know if anyone is aware but if you spot a police helicopter and your speeding it can actually record your speed and have an NIP in the post by the time you get to your destination [yes] just a little bit of not so known information for the fellow brit drivers |

Doppler radar, perhaps.

They do it by road markers and Speed = Distance / Time

Why would they be using multi-million pound aircraft, costing how many thousands to run, just to monitor speeders?

Rofl, love the picture!
I was just in Virginia last week and we were going down I-66 towards Washington D.C, anyways I see that sign on that stretch all the time what kind of aircraft enforces speed would it be a drone type aircraft circling the skies high overhead? |

From what I understand they will put a small Cessna overhead, and have a 1/2 mile segment of the interstate marked. They simply record the in/out time and find the average speed. Of course this is incredibly expensive, and they rarely actually fly the planes. Its basically a deterrent via a cool sign. |

they have a special Radar and a special ANPR system that can read your number plate 700ft+ they have been doing it in Essex for quite some time and even have signage that warns you of airborne traffic enforcement. they spot you speeding they follow for a bit then pass you onto a traffic police car in the Area then they pull you over if your super over the top speeding wise. although just recently there have been a lot of complaints about the cost of the helicopter (£1,000 ph) to run for this purpose but if you think about it all it has to do is hover for an hour over a buisy motorway and scan with its hybrid ANPR RADAR and catch 16 cars per hour and anything over that is pure profit. |
They have those signs here on Vancouver Island. Over the four years that I have lived here I have never seen an aircraft overhead or heard of someone getting reported by aircraft, but it does make me paranoid.

Picture is almost as old as I am (not really). I remember seeing this a number of years ago. Still a cool picture.

Ive seen similar signs near the DIA airport
