I quit cold turkey and i did not use any patches. It was a horror. On top of that i have to drink atleast two cups of black everyday otherwise i get powerful headaches that simple over the counter painkillers won't kill. Second i love beer... one beer multiplies cravings like 20x lol and so does coffee.

AliceFromHouston 04-20-2009 08:28 AM

i tried cold turkey before and it never worked.

coffee or alcohol makes cravings definitely worse thats when i used the inhaler (ie right now). it feels so stupid sucking on a plastic but whatever works. [rofl][rofl][rofl][rofl]

All I can say is good luck, and I really mean that! Honestly.

Most everyone I know can't quit... That doesn't mean that people can't. I just think it's as hard as hell! I grew up surrounded by smoke. I hated it. The only, and I mean only reason I am not a smoker, is because... I have never had a cig. I never gave in, peer pressure and all. I gave in in other areas, just not with the smoke.

I really hope you can quit. If you do, you are truly strong.

You may feel stupid, but believe me, other people will not think that when they see you with one.
Its great that a lot of people have respect and understand the pressure people go through when they try to quit.

If you want to lose weight and stop smoking, stick that patch on the mouth.
no need to thank me.

I just wanted to throw out another 'good job' to you... Keep it up! Smoking is a very hard addiction to break. My dad has been smoking for almost 30 years now and he's tried quitting about a dozen times... One time he quit for about 9 months and then went back, so just make sure to never touch them again because as soon as you put one in your mouth you'll be smoking again.

Exactly.

I don't think you can say you have quit unless it's been at least a year and even then.... Chances are you haven't really quit. Your still just a smoke away from probably starting again.

So stay strong and good luck.

Still no craving on my end for smokes. So hopefully i'm over it for good. Now just need to find a good gym and shed a few pounds and get in shape.

So hopefully you're still holding strong with your end of it. Good luck, i know it isn't easy.

Good Day

So, I quit smoking (again) I had my last smoke Monday morning before work and haven't touched one since. Must remind myself not to do any drinking in the near future lol. I'm actually kind of surprised, it seems this time around the withdrawal symptoms aren't nearly as bad. The last time I actually tried to quit I hardly lasted more than a day, I was already getting irritable and had trouble concentrating. I'm already starting to feel better too, no more waking up in the morning with the craving to light one up right away or nothing.

You still not smoking whisky?

AliceFromHouston 06-19-2009 10:21 AM

nope .. except 1 cigarette since this post :) [thumbup]

i don't feel like it anymore anyway.. [yes]

but it was the hardest thing ever the 1st week ..

good luck man [yes] i found it much easier to handle it with the inhaler thing (not the vapor making e-cigarette thing. just those nicorette things with nicotine cartridges).

Phoneemer 06-19-2009 11:13 AM

Yeah, I'm actually not using anything to help me quit, just plain cold turkey. I was able to quit cold turkey before with no problems about 5 years ago, and I was done with it for almost a couple months, and the only reason I started again was well, I just felt like it lol. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/tongue1.gif Since that one time I've tried quitting several times, and just really didn't make it past the 2 day mark for the most part, my willpower just didn't last, and I began to rationalize it with things like 'oh, just 1 smoke won't hurt..' But screw that, I'm determined to quit this time.

NarhozNic 06-19-2009 06:19 PM

It gets better after 3 days but it will take a long time for the cravings not to bother you. When I quit a couple of years ago I ate a hell of a lot of sweets, I'd recommend eating fruit instead unless you want to look like a jelly baby after a couple of months.

Try and do it cold turkey, the gum and patches are still keeping you addicted to nicotine which they contain, they just wean you off slowly.

Also play a computer game for a few minutes when you feel a craving (or anything that occupies your hands).

Good luck! After a month you will feel like a new man.

i still feel like smoking so badly .. i'm using patches .. i've been eating all day long ..

any advice other then punching someone or garbing a smoke ?
I got to realise that i have manger anger issues of late, i think it was the statement about not wanting to hurt but just look at killing that kind of made me think?

AliceFromHouston 06-20-2009 03:39 AM

i'm feeling much better now .. tho my cravings lasted about at least 10 days ... and now and then i still get them but then i just go out for a walk with my 5yr old son..

11Woxsepmoomo 06-20-2009 04:17 AM

I think quitting smoking was pretty easy. Now compared to opioid withdrawal now that is some horrible ****!
