Found a $14.95 charge on my phone bill today. So I'm thinking wtf is this crap, I don't bill to my phone.
I call around, get in touch with the people, and they give me my wife's name (I refused to tell them our relation or my current address). Now I'm thinking "Ok, she got suckered into buying something". So I dig a little deeper. It was an internet purchase for some coupon bullcrap (red flag, she doesn't coupon shop online) AND after I got them to release the address they gave me an address that doesn't match our address. It's our previous address which doesn't exist. Years ago we moved out and it was rezoned and merged with an adjacent lot. The address doesn't exist anymore. Also, at the old address we weren't yet married. Married name, pre-marriage address that doesn't exist. So my thought is that some company sells lists of information and this company makes fraudulent charges to people's phones who don't subscribe to a 3rd party billing block. Given that the information they purchased is years old I'm thinking of pursuing this matter legally as fraud. Not sure how far I could get with it, or if anything would come of it. I googled the two companies involved and there are TONS of fraud complaints. Companies like these shouldn't be allowed to stay in business. This could be fun and entertaining. http://notanotherpoliticalblog-j.blo...emi-legal.html Probably a futile attempt to punish the bad guy, and I'll get nowhere, but it doesn't hurt to try. |

Cable (Virgin) tried a similar trick.
My Dad recieved a Digibox by courier one morning. When he opened the letter we found it was addressed to my Mother (deceased) and said "Thanks for ordering XL TV! An engineer will be with you shortly to install your new TV package!". I phoned them up and asked why he'd recieved a digibox when he hadn't ordered TV (And was on Sky) and they said that on Tuesday of that week Mrs ****** had contacted them and ordered the service. We said that was impossible and to cancel the installation as we'd not requested it, they said "That's fine, but there's a 25% cancellation fee." Needless to say when I pointed out the person who had supposedly ordered the package had been dead for 2 years and their regulatory body might be interested in this charge they backed off. |

Nice detective work. Now the obvious next step is to get an absurdly large pistol and go Clint Eastwood on them. I'd find the guy sending out those viagra ad's, shove a bottle of pills down his throat, and tie him to a chair with his hands behind him and show pr0n for 24 hours straight. And ya know what else pisses me off? Handicapped plates given to people who clearly aren't handicapped. At Walmart this weekend a dude had his truck parked in a handicapped spot with a handicapped tag on it. The problem? The truck was lifted so high a 6' guy like myself would have trouble getting into it. There is no way in hell someone who is actually handicapped can get in that truck. I would suggest something about what if an old person with a handicapped sticker needed to park there, but then realized I'd rather force them to walk and hopefully have a heart attack. Old people around here shouldn't be driving. I have yet to meet one on the road that doesn't drive like a douche. And speaking of driving like a douche... 2 drunk rednecks were driving 25mph down the highway on saturday night. Having been to and lived in a few different cities I've come to the conclusion the the majority of humanity needs to board a titanic failboat and hit an iceberg. |
