Default European Construction Vehicles
At construction sites all over America, be it road or buildings, you see a lot of these.

You will also see things with different things other then a bed. Like a giant utility box with and without crane hoist, dump truck, flat bed, car rack, ect. ect.

What kind of things do you see out in European construction sights?

These trucks are the work horses of the American Construction Industry, and as far as I know, they don't sell things like this over in Europe and the rest of the world for that matter. So what does everyone else use as their vehicles in their construction industry?

Sometimes a japanese alternative (mitsubishi)

But no Mercedes / Volkswagen / Audi

Although I wouldn't mind them trying to build one that actually looks good. But that's probably the problem.

Ford Transits, Ford Escort/Vauxhall Combo and the like. Anything in an open-top will likely be nicked.

In a previous thread Brits claimed that there was no need for something like a pickup, and that the Ford Transit could do "anything an American pickup can do while getting 40mpg..."

I think they're full of crap.

Then there are those of us that just buy beaters.. I've been in the construction industry for 20 years and well hell the newest vehicle I think I've used to date for work is a 97 mini van. I strap 2 ladders to it every day and haul my equipment .. sometimes material to but no more then a 1000 pounds worth.. (but that's not normal use for me)

explain.....

i know a transit has poor off road capabilities, but so do those pickup's generally.

a transit is good because they have the biggest load space possible without being that big themselves.

most will have a good 2.5 desiel engine, good enough that even landrover use it.

Work pickups and running around vehicles - Toyota Hiluxes with either 3 litre diesel NA or Turbo' for the bosses!
Light trucks are Isuzu - the newer ones turbo's, nice to drive and enough power.
Six wheeler dump trucks are also Isuzu.

However I see quite a few Chrysler Ram trucks around - an aquaintance has three (all with Bank's modifications). F100, 250 and 350 Fords were around a few years back but don't recall seeing a new one for close to ten years.

Tranny vans are very popular because you can mod them to do pretty much anything. Ive even seen a 4x4 one on raised gear on a site i was working at

Pick up would be useless in citys etc because pikey scum would pinch all the stuff in the back [rofl]

There are plenty of open-backed trucks driving about. But surely, generally, a closed van is better because what happens if rains?

All I know is, in Germany they dont use pickup trucks because you cant hide all the beer in them.

I worked on a construction site during semester holidays when I was a student, and I can tell you, the first beer goes at half past eight, and from then on its 2 beers per hour.

Its a wonder our buildings dont colapse after a couple of weeks!

As long as you're not hauling drywall around it's not a big deal.

Over here, supervisors use pickups for the most part.

Workers usually drive either a minivan, or one of three full size vans:

Ford Econoline

Chevrolet Express

Dodge Sprinter

The sprinters are less common, but then they are more expensive... being re-badged Mercedes and all. You Brits have known these vans for a while I would think.

Pick up trucks are pretty common in th UK but i guess the only ones which you could class as american is ones like the Ford Ranger, most common seems the Toyota Hilux then maybe Nissan i also see a few Mitsubishis.
Seems like the Mitsubishis are mainly driven by possers then for actual work though.
My bro drives a double cab Hilux for his work.
