Normally I surf the web on a 6 year old computer with flaky low signal strength wifi.

Right now I'm on my moms laptop with a full 5 bars. The internet is so fast it feels like I Have the whole web stored on my hard drive.

WTH, it takes me 2 ms to ping my own router. Is this normal or is wifi just crap? How much latency does WPA add?

A long time ago, when some people had to play lan games, on wireless B, we had ping times up to 8ms and it would still lag a little bit.
This was with 5 bars out of 5.

For me, I usually have 2 to 3 bars out of 5, mostly 2. Sometimes even 1. Speed wise doesn't really seem to change other then when the router wants to disconnect me. It is some pos dlink router that just bugs me. Whenever I torrent, the thing loves to reset itself every 15 minutes or so.
