Default Lovecraft was right?
So,last night I was just looking around at stuff on wikipedia,Iam a Lovecrafct fan so just for kicks I looked up R'lyeh and found something interesting.

R'lyeh is a fictional city that first appeared in the story, "The Call of Cthulhu," by H. P. Lovecraft. R'lyeh is also referred to in Lovecraft's The Mound as Relex. R'lyeh is a sunken city located deep under the Pacific Ocean and is where the godlike being Cthulhu is buried.
R'lyeh's bizarre architecture is characterized by its non-Euclidean geometry.

Lovecraft said that R'lyeh is located at 47°9′S 126°43′W / 47.15°S 126.717°W / -47.15; -126.717 (R'lyeh fictional location (Lovecraft)) in the southern Pacific Ocean.[5] August Derleth, however, placed R'lyeh at 49°51′S 128°34′W / 49.85°S 128.567°W / -49.85; -128.567 (R'lyeh fictional location (Derleth)) in his own writings. Now where it gets interesting is here:

The Bloop is the name given to an ultra-low frequency underwater sound detected by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration several times during the summer of 1997. The source of the sound remains unknown.

The sound, traced to somewhere around 50° S 100° W (South American southwest coast), was detected repeatedly by the Equatorial Pacific Ocean autonomous hydrophone array, which uses U.S. Navy equipment originally designed to detect Soviet submarines. According to the NOAA description, it "rises rapidly in frequency over about one minute and was of sufficient amplitude to be heard on multiple sensors, at a range of over 5,000 km." According to scientists who have studied the phenomenon it matches the audio profile of a living creature but there is no known animal that could have produced the sound. If it is an animal, it would have to be, reportedly, much larger than even a Blue Whale, the largest known animal on the earth. http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/vents/acous...s_mystery.html

The "Bloop" can be heard on that page, alternately it can be heard here too, cleaned up and slowed back down as the "bloop" sound on the .gov page has been speeded up 16x.

Look at the co-ordinates,was H.P.L. right?

Well I for one am ready to welcome the truly greatest of all evils should he rise from his slumber.

Ia! Ia! Cthulhu ftaghn! Ia! Ia! Cthulhu ftaghn!

Yep - a good 26° west of the approximate location of the sound, which equates to a distance of 2900km. Ah well, close but no cigar-smoking-ancient-from-the-deeps

Well,it was of course in all cases an approximation, and the sound was capable of being heard thousands of miles away.

Anyway, all your words prove is that the great old one is on the move!

Shhh, don't ruin it,mighty Cthulu will not be pleased.

I should have posted this in the religon forums.

What is it they say... 95% of the ocean floor hasn't yet been explored. I'm still hoping for giant sea serpents along with the odd Kraken or two to be discovered.

That would rule baby.

I don´t really get it ?
the "Bloop" sound, sounded just like, well air "blooping" , hence some kind of natural gases escaping from some cavity ?
What´s so special about it ?

Listed to the 'cleaned up, real time' version. Sounds like underwater whale music or something.

I can see Richard D. James doing something like that - somehow I think he already has...

Except that everyone says it fits the pattern of an animal, one that would have to be huge, very huge.

But how can anyone say it fits the pattern of an animal that´s huge if there´s nothing to compare to ?
Anyways i still think the "bloop" was nothing more than some natural gas´s escaping from the earths crust.

I'll trust the marine biologists over you on this one,and the marine biologists all have said it fits the pattern of an animal noise.
