...from the article you linked. The Panasonic does it a little different.

...something like this.
Umm, OK... but that is just the thing, the same applied to the LCDs with their backlights on torch mode as well. Lower the backlight on a LCD, less power consumed. [yes]

They wanted to keep the comparison on a level playing field and leaving it at factory standards is what the mass public typically does, I can't tell you how many friends' TVs I have taken off of "Vivid/Dynamic".

Well in the end its like you said, each to his own, I just wanted to make clear that Plasma doesnt necesarrily mean a higher wattage just because the max. is higher. I guess if you watch a dark movie a TFT would consume more average.

Well right, obviously it doesn't apply across the board but the information in these types of threads are typically in generalities. Because of the glass screens on plasmas people say that they are more prone to glare but then you have LCDs with the glossy screen that are just as bad if not worse, there are always exceptions.

I always cringe a bit when threads asking very broad questions such as this or "what speakers should I get?", "should I get a 360 or a PS3?" etc. there are so many variables.
