Default question about selling a computer...
anyways my buddy's mom asked if i could build her a computer... she said she will pay me whatever i think is fair...

All parts are new and all software is a full legal copies, not pirated

so what should i charge her? I dont want to burn her but i still need to make some cash...

BTW: i build PC's on the side for extra cash... but I usually 'reuse' people's software from their old computers, but i try to keep some OS and software on sight so i can have it if people need it

this is what i built:

CPU: AMD x2 5400+(stock HSF)

Motherboard: ECS GeForce7050M-M
http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0291355

RAM: 4GB (2 x 2GB) 667MHz DDR2(had it laying around from an older system build, but i never ended up using it... so its new)

Hard Drive: Western Digital 200GB IDE(again had this laying around never been used)

CD/DVD burner combo(burns CD's at 52x reads DVD's at 16x, i had this laying around, its rather old but its never been used)

Case: Powerspec TX366
http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0247229

PSU: 300 watt (had it laying around, never been used)

OS: a legal full copy of Windows XP Professional with SP3(i have a few legal licensed copies laying around)

Extras: Full legal licensed copy of Office XP Professional(had this laying around), AVG Anti Virus(Full) and Ad-aware(full)

Depends on how much you enjoy doing it. [rofl]

Usually when I ask people what they think is fair they give me about $50, which is about $20/hour from setup to completion.

Value of all components and software plus whatever you think you should earn for hourly labor.

unless I am building for a good friend or family I usually do something like cost plus $50 - $100. Lower if its for someones personal use around their house or with minimal apps requiring my time to install, higher if its for business. Usually I end up doing stuff for friends though and tell them they owe me a meal next time we are out or something along those lines. Not bad to get a computer for the cost of a burger an drink.
