I wish I would've came to this post first instead of dredging through Endadget. Either way, some nice upgrades there. I can't wait until 2.1 is released for the iphone this friday

Ah yeah, forgot to mention the update this Friday which is said to dramatically increase stability and multiple other things like dropped calls and battery life, which is definitely much needed.

Im guessing the previous Nano style wasn't that hot then or people realised they didn't fit in their Nike+ tops etc, since they've gone back to the previous Nano style (which I have)

That is a possibility but I think they wanted to bring the widescreen format to the nano which is why they went for this new oval shaped longer design, then included the accelerometer, etc. I see Apple phasing out the Classics entirely once the prices of solid state become more reasonable and possibly the nano taking its place since that line seemed to see the largest overhaul.
