"I asked him for an example of a search which yields better results than Google because of Cuil’s larger index, and he cited a search for Cinderella, pointing out that most of Google’s results centered on the fairy tale, while Cuil made room on the first page of results for a page selling footwear for women with small feet. “I’m not saying that URL isn’t in Google’s index, but we think it’s nice to offer users alternative results from which to choose,” Mr. Sollitto said."

Some people just need to be punched in the face.
Well, information week has had it's say, and they are little more positive about Cuils prospects: Cuil Needs To Fix Its Technology Before It Can Get Hot

Why would anyone think that this is going to work? I mean if there was a massive surge of people that thought Google sucked then perhaps there might be a place for something like this to work, but everyday millions of people use google without even thinking about it.

The problem I find with Cuil is that for me the search engine is not about the search engine itself but the webpages I go to from there, I want the search engine to be as little as possible "in my face", I want to 5 seconds searching and 30 minutes on the website I need, not the other way around.

Plus Cuil?? what the hell kind of name is that?

That was my first thought. Sort of cool when doing random non important searches, then realised I could not get any information I really wanted. lol

VIDEOHITE 01-08-2008 09:23 AM

Lol. I googled "cuil sucks" adn got over 9000 results.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&r...ks&btnG=Search

I cuiled "cuil sucks" and got 13 results in cuil and none of the results were even about cuil.
http://www.cuil.com/search?q=cuil%20sucks&sl=long

Edit, i refreshed cuils results and its down to 12.

You don't seem to get what the founder said, they do not want to find what the user is looking for, the basic idea is flawed.

It's not really that.... I am just thinking that a lot of things are flawed on first introduction: the most recent example being revelant to here being the most recent 3dmark, yet after a fix was released, most of the unhappiness died away.

Another example would be the average mmorpg: lots of enthusiasts users at first, then flaws are discovered and people back away, then many things are fixed and the game goes on to become popular. (or it fails) [yes]

I admit Cuil is flawed right now, but I am not ready to write it off forever. In 6 months and with some fixes.........

Why wait 6 months when you can use a search engine now that works just fine and will work just as good in 6 months

Because AltaVista was a perfectly good search engine when Google came out?

Google VS Cuil?

Well, it seems there is yet another new search engine in town claiming to be able to clean Googles clock.

Ex-Google engineers debut Cuil way to search

The only problem is, I went to thier new miracle website and....its to busy to process any requests! [rofl]

Due to excessive load, our servers didn't return results. Please try your search again.

Try your own luck! Cuil

Wow... what a useless search engine. I hate the "results" like that, it is flat out useless.

Guess I will stick with Google..[thumbup]

creewespock 07-29-2008 10:55 AM

Yikes the results after searching SUCK. Google's simple list works miles better. Also, I search for my own website and google provides the exact URL with sublinks...This search engine provides nothing but random pages...awful [thumbdown]

MpbY5dkR 07-29-2008 11:03 AM

I tried to search for something, and most results were from warez sites...

Too bad, because i really like the layout.

We could hope that this is all just teething pains....but going against Goggle so publicly....these people have to make a good impression right away....and they ain't. [no]

EDIT: maybe we are being a bit hasty? Trying a bit more and this seems like it could be very powerful, with a few tweaks......

powerful? I search for the exact url of my own website and it doesn't even find the main page...thats hideous!

I bet Google made this whole thing up to show how much better they are than anyone.

All they need to do is create a few more useless "competitors" that completely blow, and no one will bother even looking at anyone else....

well that is what I would do...

This person never really broke away, she is still secretly a google employee

I mean that in the things it does find, it displays them in a very neat and possibly useful (certainly different) way then the one we are use to. Keeping in mind how "young" this is, and assuming rapid improvement in search results, this could be a nice new tool. Or not! [rofl]

My thoughts exactly. I fired it up and enjoyed the main page, but my enjoyment instantly turned to dismay when I realized how awful the results were. http://discussworldissues.com/forums...es/unsure1.gif

What the heck is a Cuil? That name is to stupid for me to use it.
