I survived not getting the first iPhone, although I really wanted one. I could probably even survive not getting this 2nd gen iPhone, but I'm doubting I will.
I almost never wait in line for a product, and I never buy something just because its the the in thing to do. I only spend money on things I need and things I really want and feel I will get some use out of. That and I always look for value. The iPhone has been a delima for me since its inception, the fact that it doesn't do video, mms, or support flash really bothers me. The phone I have now doesn't either, but if I'm gonna spend an extar $30 a month, actually $60, because if I get one so is my wife, I wan't those features. ![]() |

Wow...may be they would fix those flaws in the pro one, but if it is like that I am keeping my HTC mogul

I didn't say everybody, but most people who buy this phone are exactly what I described they are. Could it be possible that it's so popular because it is extremely intuitive and easy to use with its broad spectrum of features by everyone who uses/tries one? No, couldn't be... I as well as everyone I know with one is trying so desperately hard to be "hip". |

Wow...may be they would fix those flaws in the pro one, but if it is like that I am keeping my HTC mogul Forget browsing the internet on one of these phones, because even when browsing in 3G the phone always seem like it is playing catch up. Pulling out a stylus virtually eliminates the "one handed use" I consistently use when iphone, not to mention that even the "improved" opera browser is still infuriating to navigate with. If there's a paragraph of text I wish to enlarge on the iphone, I simply double tap the screen and the text is now perfectly formatted and zoomed as if it were magic. There are no "font size" or "zoom" options, because they are pointless and arbitrary. I'll even venture to say that with a good Edge signal, the speed of my 1st Gen Iphone was not too far behind my 8525 when it had a 3G signal, due to the Safari browser and iphone performance being so much better. To be honest, I don't really mind the incessant bashing my phone gets, because before I owned one, I was purchasing a new phone just about every 6 months. I too defended my WinMo devices, even though they had horrible performance and were bulky as hell to carry. "I like Windows," I would say, and enjoyed the flexibility of having a plethora of downloads at my disposal. However, once I got used to the seemless, near perfect interface, lack of freezes, ease of use, and what is probably one of the best MP3 players around (all packed into the phone), I couldn't go back. Then I bought the 3G iphone and downloaded version 2.0, and laughed as I realized I'll never own another phone again (that is, until the Iphone 3 is released). ![]() |

Can't stand the iPhone, will stick with my HTC Touch Diamond, best phone yet, it does more than the iPhone ever can and in a much smaller package and twice the screen pixels for crisp text and images ![]() The Diamond is far from perfect though, and the iPhone still has it beat in some important areas. Like we noted, we’ll reserve our reception judgment until a proper US model comes out. While TouchFLO 3D is nearly perfect, the lag when navigating the Windows environment needs to be addressed. HTC falls well short on their music player too, which is the iPhone’s strength. Until a product is built from the ground up to compete with the iPhone there is little chance that it will succeed in doing so. The Diamond will be wildly successful, most likely surpassing the Touch’s 2M units sold, but in the end it is still in a different class than Apple’s offering. However if you look beyond the too many iPhone rip-off features of the HTC Touch Diamond, this looks like one promising device. If they are able to go beyond the issues such as the scroll wheel not responding or sluggish performance, it may even surpass the iPhone. This is a consumer smartphone that packs more specs, and if HTC can sort out the lag issue, more punch than the iPhone in all areas. The only thing it appears to be lagging is the audio and video prowess of Apple's smartphone. |

Well, good things come to those who wait....... in line!
After perusing the app store, I went down to AT&T ready to get two 3G iPhones. All gone! ![]() They told me I could order them, but they didn't know how long it would take. I paused and said thanks, but I'll wait. Now I have more time to contemplate in my indecisiveness. ![]() |

I sure did
![]() When I got to the Apple store in my area at 7pm yesterday, there were 3 people in line. We then proceeded to drink about 10 beers at the bar in the mall, and from then on we camped outside. There were only about 30 people up until about 3am, and the line steadily grew from there to well over 200. We were the first group to get in, but my dreams were almost shattered when they realized I had a business discount on my plan, which would only let me purchase the phone from an actual AT&T store. I quickly called customer support, they canceled my discount (of which I will have to reinstate), and I breathed a sigh of relief as they finally sold me the phone. Needless to say, the phone kicks ass ![]() |

Right now it looks like they are having problems with activating the phones in store. It will be interesting how this plays out with so many people in line.

You had an iPhone before, right? Is it really worth an upgrade? 3G would be great, but there is no 3G service in my area, only EDGE ![]() EDIT: The GPS is a very nice added feature, plus little upgrades such as better speakers, a slightly rounder design, a flush headphone jack, and a sleaker back case all are nice bonuses. Even if you don't have 3G, I guarantee this phone will make AT&T expand their network. The only downside is the more expensive plan ($15 extra I believe). |

I didn't wait in line for the first one and decided not to on this one as well. I much prefer waiting a few days then walking in and out.
Also, I have been hearing those that waited in line to be the first with the new iPhone now have to wait longer after their purchase because Apple servers are highly overloaded. Why they didn't officially release firmware 2.0 a day or two early for the origional iPhone to alleviate some of the load on their brand new product launch day is completely beyond me. Not so hot start for the new one and definitely leaves a bad taste in the mouths of 1st gen owners. I know this will be all over the news. |
