what's interesting is how he's managed to salvage his reputation. It wasnt too long ago that a lot of people thought he was the devil incarnate. To his credit, he's donated billions to eradicating disease. I've always admired the guy. His philanthropy just makes me even more. I'm not a vista fan, i'm quite happy with XP, I may eventually move to Vista but currently don't have plans, my next machine will be a linux box, with windows as a 2nd boot, or maybe even as a VM. |

It's not that he's just giving it away either - it's being done thoughtfully, targetting the kinds of diseases that are real problems in poorer countries, but can be effectively tackled - like childhood measles - not just the 'glamour' diseases like AIDS. I really admire that. I agree. It's all well and good to donate to AIDS research, but it's just that; research. If the money can be used to cure people with "lesser" ailments right away, I feel that is money better spent. Not to belittle the importance of AIDS research, but immediate action will save more lives right now. |
