Yea must be, i was about to call BS. [rofl]

I get around 42mpg around town in my 2002 1.4vvti Toyota Corolla, driving more aggressively that can drop to around 36 though.
Don't Do town driving in the Vectra, its piss poor round town 22mpg tops. Get it out in the country and bang it into 6th at 60mph with the engine going at 1400rpm is where it saves the money.

Mind you it took a few weeks of owning the car to get over the temptation to race people from the traffic lights. think I averaged about 30 mpg first week.

My car is pretty much full at 35 litres which is about 9.24 US gallons.

I've actually gotten down to London from Manchester in half a tank (which is roughly about 250 miles). Managed to get 56.6mpg! [thumbup]

Now I roughly get around 51mpg if I'm on motorway and about 45mpg if I'm driving civilised on normal roads. Bare in mind it is a 1.2l engine.

A full tank usually lasts me roughly about 2-3 weeks, I only do about 50-80miles a week around the city.

my last fill up i did 280 miles off about £30, which works out at about 42mpg. which isnt bad for a shitroen saxo 1.6

I was trying to get a 944 before my Del Sol. I wonder if I would get around 16-18mpg or worse then that because of my driving style. I think the one I was looking at was a 1983 944S.
I also have a 87 944 NA and it gets 23-26 in town.

The worst I have gotten in it was around 18mpg and that was running it up and down the tail of the dragon for a whole day. So the rpms never really dropped below 4500.

My Turbo i think has a small gas leak, and its modified so MPG isn't its strong point.

Ever since I got my iPhone and found a neat little web app for it I've been keeping track of my mpg, how much I'm spending on gas, and how many miles I'm driving. It's really interesting to see how wide of a range I can get out of my 1.6L Del Sol!

Since October 12th I've done a total of 2,985 miles which required 129.56 gallons of fuel! [shocked] That's run me $395.85, or about $3.06 a gallon. When I break it down even more that's about an average of 23mpg from those almost three thousand miles. I spend 13.2 cents JUST in fuel costs for every mile I drive! I've had a high of 30.92mpg (for sure highway, but I must have been really paying attention to my driving style still since I've done more then one decent length highway trip) and a low of 18.96mpg!


Crazy stuff! I can predict that if I don't take any large road trips this summer (>500 mile) I'll probably drive just about 9,000 miles using 388 gallons of fuel which will require almost $1,200 if fuel prices just bounce around like they have since last fall, which they probably won't.
What webb app do you use to keep track?

Ya, I like to jump off every light... well, jump as much as 125hp will let me. My red line is like 7800 rpm or something so when I floor it it goes way up there.
Are you saying you usually take it up to 7000rpm when you leave a red light?

I do lots of stop-and-go freeway driving and city driving. I might be able to up it to 40 (UK) mpg if I could drive without stopping at a constant 65-70mph, probably could last at least 400 miles.

If I drive purely in the city, which is on the side of a mountain, I get maybe 20 UK mpg. The difference between city and freeway is phenomenal on my car.

Is that a diesel?

To be honest, that's pretty good for a 3.8L V6. Considering a CTR does about 27mpg at most and that's just a 2L.

No, it's a gasoline running on premium fuel. Not that premium fuel helps all that much (if at all).

It's about 25-26 US mpg, which (according to the online unit converter) is 30-31 UK mpg. Sometimes it's only 300 miles on 14 gallons, sometimes it's 330 miles on 13 gallons. It all depends on the traffic that week, and like I said, the difference between slow city/slow freeway and full speed freeway is immense.

EDIT: My last fill-up was 13.124 gallons (US) going 330.1 miles. 30.21 UK mpg.

My car does 650miles on a 55 litre tank of diesel. Fuel computer is hovering around 59mpg average. [thumbup]

I've been curious to see what the max mpg I could get out of a tank of gas is, but I can't stay out of the boost LOL. I think my average is 19.8 mpg, and it's only that high because most of my mileage is freeway driving...

Car has a built in MPG readout based on the odometer. "Trip B" I let just run up. Currently it's sitting at 4300 miles at an average of 23.1 MPG (27 MPG for you imperial folks). I've done an actual miles / gallons calc and it's not perfect, but it's pretty close. Within 1 MPG or so.

I drive ~22k miles a year and gas is ~$3.20 / gallon so that works out to a rough guesstimate of $3k / year on gas.

At least it's fun to drive
I'd hate to spend $2.2k a year and drive a prius or some other weak car like that for such minimal savings.

No, it's not a Ford engine -- it's a GM 3800 Series II. Just came home from school, trip computer told me I used ~1 gallon and drove ~28 miles. Some slowing on the freeway and accelerating/decelerating.

I get around 19 mpg in the City, and around 25 mpg on the highway. Considering my edge weighs about 4200 lbs, it actually gets reasonable mileage for an SUV/Crossover.

Tire pressure: ( in bar, not sure the psi)


-0,2bar below optimal pressure = 1% more fuel consumption +10% less lifetime of your tire
-0,4bar below optimal pressure = 2% more fuel consumption +25% less lifetime of your tire
-0,6bar below optimal pressure = 6% more fuel consumption +45% less lifetime of your tire


Always check tire pressure when their cold to have a more exact reading.

I have thought about doing what you have done, and I think that I might. I am going to do it over at www.fueleconomy.gov. Its a nice simple website that is easy to use and navigate, which is very surprising for it being a .gov.

Though, what engine are you running in that Del Sol? That seems like piss poor economy for that light vehicle. I used to drive a Accord manual 2.3L 135hp and pulled 32mpg constantly. Person who bought it did somethings to it and pulled 34mpg constant.


I currently drive an S10, average 24mpg and drive roughly 20,000 miles per year. Mileage imo is pretty good for a shi/ty 2.8L V6.
My Datsun averages 20 to 22mpg but should increase once I am done with it.


In my sisters Caddy with a 4.6L Northstar, I was averaging 25mpg which was pretty awesome. Though I wasn't going past 2,500rpm, but with that motor, you don't even need to.

I use http://miles.jetless.org/ , it's just a real simple and small web app made with the iPhone in mind, though you don't need an iPhone to use it. I have a 1.6L D16Z6 engine in there. I was wrong, the redline is 7200rpm and 90% of the time when I'm driving (and not trying to watch my mpg) it seems to run up to 6,000 some RPM, if I really floor it all the way it does peak at about 7,000 to 7,100 rpm. I drive along a bypass highway which runs around the edge of town and is the best way (less traffic) to get from one end to the other, however, it's not completely highway since it does have about five traffic lights on it. If it's day time I almost always hit at least two lights, if it's night time it's almost always a straight shot. If I'm coming off a red light there then I'll reach about 6k or higher twice before I'm at about 60mph or 65mph and then I cool down a little until I'm between 55 and 57mph or something. So ya, I'm sure driving like that just eats the fuel since it's neither pure highway or low speed (less then 35mph) city driving.
