Default How's your 2007 taxes looking?
I just did my federal tax and I am getting about $1,200 back. I haven't done my state tax yet, but I am also expecting to get some money back.

Why loan the government that much money? Unless that is you don't make enough money to actually pay taxes and that's all refund money from the get go, anyway, are you including your "economic stimulus" money? $300 or $600 or something come May/June.

Anyway, I got my $16 back a week or two ago, it was awesome.

I owe money to the fed, and the state owes me a worthless $9. That's almost as worthless as the $5 I got for jury duty 2 years ago. Somehow I went from being dirt poor in the eyes of the state of NJ the past few years, to making not much more last year and actually owing them income tax.

I almost forgot about that. Including that, I'll still owe the fed money. Here's to being in one of the lowest income brackets and not getting anything from that package. Gotta love being a "dependent".
(Not that I think the stimulus package is a good idea, but if they're giving people money like that, then I should at least get something, seeing how I pay taxes...Someone please correct me if I'm wrong and I'll be getting a check.)

I am working to change my exemptions for 2008 so I can keep my money instead of getting my money back. I got a raise in 2007. And no, I am NOT including in this thread the $300 rebate we are supposed to be getting. So that means I'll be getting more back. $1,200 federal + $xyz California state + $300 rebate. I could have bought an iPhone by now. I did, however, contribute a lot more to my 403(b) contributions for 2007. According to the H&R TaxCut software, I saved $1,000-$1,500 by contributing. Not sure what it means, though.

Im getting 1700 back from fed and 300 from state...
but during the entire year they really sucked me dry takin like 1200+ a month in taxes alone!!

Also that 300+ rebate we're getting is kinda BS cause they are gonna consider it as income for 2008 and we'll pretty much end up paying it back in '09

It's not really a loan because you aren't charging the government interest, such as bonds. You just get your money back.

I can't figure out how that makes it better, they still hold onto your money for free..

Yeah, either way we're not building interest on it so that's not good. So hopefully when I change my exemptions, I will OWE money to Uncle Sam for my 2008 taxes.
