Congrats! I've been working in IT now about 7 years. My best advice for you is keep up with new tech and do lots of reading. That is what will separate you from the lazy IT.

Gonna start Part time for a few months until this guy leaves but that gives me time to adapt to the systems used in catering and service. Then should start full time.

It's always nice when the employer will help further your education. Just be careful with that. Some employers will require you to sign a contract when you take a class forcing you to stay for X number of years after the class is completed. Others will make you pay for the class if you leave before a certain date. It's just to protect their investment, but who knows, you could have some great job opportunity in the next few years that just falls in your lap. Again, congrats and I hope you enjoy the new job!

Started as an Operator 7 years ago, now I'm a Network Admin working in a senior capacity and I still get ID'd to buy ciggarettes :-)

Congratulations man, it can be a tedious job unless you're proactive and experiment with different technologies; you'll probably find you gravitate to certain aspects of the role, be it general support or switches and routers, just make sure you keep up with the things you hate and you'll be fine.

Oh and the golden rule, always make a backup before you change something, even something as basic as a config file and if you're in doubt, don't click.

Have fun!

Was scared at first because I don't have any real qualifications beyond my A level Computer, an almost finished advanced diploma and various IT jobs around but they assured that most problems are just normal computer/networking installations that anyone with computer knowledge can do. Servers etc are all installed by the companies they get them from. I can call the head office in Geneva whenever I need any assistance. I'll be working part time at for the first few months as a probationary/learning period with the current admin. Then they'll offer a contract and I'll take over.

Will know in a few days about the pay.

Gonna party so hard this weekend.

btw.

They obviously use very specific programs like Fidelio (property management software).

congrats man.

Good luck dude. Seems like a great job.

You can bet your life on that, won't go one step forwards without being able to go back.

I'm 23 btw
