The problem now with the Signature Tower is the FAA. Due to its proximity to the airport (4 miles), the FAA is wanting it reduced in height to 433 feet (current design is 1047 feet). Giarratana has said no design changes though and the Airport Authority is behind him. Currently they are working to change takeoff and landing patterns that would be affected by the building. That just seems like a bad idea to me ... air patterns or not, who knows what might happen. Good reason to keep airports the heck away from city centers ![]() |

Yea, I heard about the FAA thing, but I don't understand the 433 feet part, when the BellSouth (or is it AT&T now?) Building a couple of blocks away is 600-something feet tall. (I know there's a hill, but it's not a 200-feet elevation increase.) ![]() |

Freedom Tower: ![]() There are more amazing buildings though. That redesign looks crappy. I much prefer the original design as this "new" design is pretty much just a generic box with a couple of pathetic attempts at making it not look like the generic box it is. ![]() Oh, and cutting the height to just 1368ft from the original 1776ft was lame. I loved how the previous plan called for, every September 11th, the building to cast a shadow on the 9/11 memorial site at exactly the time of the 9/11 attacks and for the shadow to pass at exactly the time after the second tower fell. That's what I call great thought and indepth design and setting the height to 1776 ft was another key tie in with American history. What these jerk offs have done was sell the public on this world class design then after the project got approved they changed EVERYTHING leaving nothing but a generic box. What crap. ![]() |

Chicago ![]() Wow, that building is fugly. QFT Native-born Chicagoans should both hate the thing's design and be proud it's bringing Chicago back into the game. The Sears Tower is 442.3m and the Drill Bit will be 609.6m. The Burj in Dubai is currently looking at being 807.7m (I believe they're still being hush-hush about its final planned height).
