Guys & Car gurus,
i need your openion about what you think will be better only out of those two cars the Jetta or Civic sedan both 2007 with 1.6L petrol engines, i live in Egypt & we always use sedan cars here that's why i don't choose a Hatchback & also we don't have the CIVIC hatch back here, the Jetta has many more options than the CIVIC & both are Automatic, the Jetta with 6spd auto & the Civic with 5 spd auto the Jetta uses the OLD 1.6L 8v 101BHP engine cause the FSI engines have problems with our fuel overhere in Egypt, & the CIVIC is using the new 1.6L I-VTEC 140PS(125PS net) engine. so what do u think gonna be a better drive & last longer with fewer problems & what's gonna be more fun to drive in terms or handling & stability on the road?? thanks guys in advance. |

The civic will have fewer maintainence issues. VWs are fine cars, but they are not in the same league as Honda for reliability. I'm not sure about Egypt, but in the US parts are a lot cheaper for Hondas than VWs. I would recommend the Civic. |

Whatever is cheaper to fix.
Here in America, it is much cheaper to fix a Honda, but you never know. It might be MUCH cheaper to fix the VW. The VW might have a few more issues, but if the cost out weighs the problems, I would go for a few more issues with much less cost. Though the Civic will be a little more fun with the vtec, similar economy, and should be pretty cheapo to fix also. Though the VW does have the features and I would guess looks a bit better. So down to the end of it all, it comes to how often do they regularly brake, and how much? |

In the last week, I test drove a used 2005 Jetta 2.5 Package 1 (pretty much 07's Package 2) and a new 07 Civic LX. Both were fine cars.
It was hard to compare, as one was a couple years used (1 personal owner), but the Civic felt better on the road. The ivtec and what felt like a better suspension (maybe just newer?) really made the car seem like more fun than the Jetta. If that's what you're looking for, you'll get that plus reliability. Leather seats aren't even a factory option for Civics. Ask for some of the other standard luxury items, and you'll quickly be referred to an Accord or higher. The Jetta was nice. The transmissions they started to use in the revamped 05 models are really smooth. If you get the DSG with the TDI or GLI, "Launch Control" is just cool. Beyond that, the NA 2.5 left a lot to be desired. Torque was good, but 150HP out of a 2.5L I5 is just weak. Engine and transmission aside, interior quality goes so far ahead of a Civic, it's not even fair to compare. Leather, Dual zone automatic climate control, 6 disc in-dash MP3 player, MFD (trip computer) that draws all your attention off of the road, and little things that just add to the overall package... For example, just tap the turn signal in a direction and it flashes the light three times for you. It's the numerous little things that really add up to provide for what feels like a real luxury car. Seeing the used Jetta and the new Civic being similarly priced, I was really leaning towards the Civic for it's reliability and fuel economy. Feeling better on the road made a large difference as well. Ultimately, I didn't pick either car. ![]() |
