Default quick question....
ok, I'm off to purchase a laptop shortly and I think I found the one. it's at best buy and it cost 599.99 it's a compaq presario V6305NR. turion X2, 1gig ram, 100 gig HD, vista premium. does this sound good?? I really like the look of it too. anyway, I have one more question...I was thinking about buying a notebook with 512 ram and upgrading it to 1.5 gig (price), but the 512mb one only come with vista basic (which someone said sucks compared to premium), and also someone told me that without a dual core processor, upgrading ram to run vista won't be as noticable. is this true?

No, it's not true. More RAM will mean you get less HD thrashing and faster switching between apps etc, regardless of weather you have dual core or not. Plus, that laptop is dual core already

However, you really should be looking to buy a laptop with C2D nowadays. They're much faster than anything AMD has to offer. Try to find one with a C2D and 1GB RAM or more.

I was thinking of buying a different one that was cheaper and had a single core processor but only 512ram and vista basic and then just upgrading the ram to 1.5 gig

If your budget allows, get a C2D, not a turion. Otherwise a single core is good enough if you don't run many demanding apps/games on your laptop. I think Vista basic is Vista without all the fancy graphics, but if you like that sort of thing then ask if you can upgrade to Vista premium
