When did futuremark decide to get annoying ads? [cursing]

The ad's didn't bother me when they were tech related. The newegg OCZ ad and the world of warcraft ad were fine.. but the "win a free ipod" scamtastic ads do bother me.

Yeah, when I'm at work where I don't have adblock, the ads are really annoying. If it was just google ads, like I think it used to be, I wouldn't be bothered at all. If they had google ads and made a post like "hey folks, money's tight, if you folks could click on an ad now and then that'd be great" I'd start doing that right away. But as it is, I get a kind of "gwaahaa, let's annoy our readers with the most annoying but profitable ads possible so we can light our cigars with $20 bills" vibe.

To be fair, i will give FM the benefit of a doubt, and say that the content provider has gone and changed things, not FM. I guess until i hear one way or another, I will be more cautious with judgment. I guess part of me just wants to think that FM would never sink so low, as to use THOSE ads....

Then again, having the purchased versions of 3D Mark does have SOME advantages..

Yip, it's good to know that it wasn't intentional, though even the newegg one I see now is pretty annoying, designed as it is with the "flicker". Still, I don't have 3d mark or anything, I don't pay for the forum use, so fm isn't exactly losing anything by me coming here less while at work. If anything it frees up some server resources, so all's well, etc

edit: and it's still nowhere near as bad as news sites where you have ads at the top, all down both sides, as well as those annoying flash ones right in the middle of the story that expand across the whole screen. Should be thankful for that, at least ;o)

Just to make sure that everyone does catch our response on this:

http://www.futuremark.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45037

I'm writing to personally apologize for the ads that didn't fit with the theme and tone of our websites and products. We tried a new "Ad Network" and as soon as we saw the discussion that was happening in this forum as well as the internal discussion that happened at Futuremark we took them down right away. We will continue to work to find advertisers that actually help our customers while providing us with the necesary funding to bring new tools, functionality, articles and networking speed to both of our sites.

It really was a case of "Okay - well that looks promising; it should fit in nicely.....now, let's see - what the!?...various discussions take place....ack! no! no! get them off! get them off!"
