Default Alternative supplements such as herbs/etc.
So does anyone here take supplements like fish oil, flax seed oil, St. John's Wart, Gensing, etc? Do you really believe these things are good to take? How about regular multivitamins?

I take my daily multivitamins and a number of herbs/enzymes that are:

CoEnzyme Q10 - great for your heart (some doctors swear by it) and good for your skin

Omega 3's - Again good for your heart, also benefits skin and hair

Astragalus - Powerful herb that has very little side effects if any in some, Chinese live by it, boosts your immune system by elevating T-Cell/Killer WBC count, said to increase survival rate in cancer patients by 2-3x. Regulates BP, heart rate, good for the liver and heart too.

Cat's Claw - Another immune system booster but also is great for your respitory system - also an anti-inflammatory. Great for the liver as it helps stimulate the bile production of the liver. I occasionally take this.

Vitamin D - I take an extra 1000 IU of this every day because of the importance of this vitamin to your health.

Other than that I take some Ginseng, Ginko Biloba, and maybe some Yohimbe once in a while.

And your main diat is made up of Mc Donalds and Burger King fast food ?
Otherwise i couldn´t explain why you would be taking that crap.

But do you guys at all feel the effects of taking these? I mean, even with vitamins, I can take one for several weeks every day and not feel any different than without them.

It's all a bunch of tree hugging hippie crap.... although, I guess mutlivitamins are not so bad... I used to take children's vitamins if i was starting to get sick in High School.. they have lik 400% daily value of vitamin C, totally helps to keep you unsick.

err no? does it look like I eat McDonalds every day? You've seen my pictures on FM, I really dont eat that stuff that often, maybe Subway but usually I eat fairly healthy, I just take this stuff for added effect and because its beneficial.

If you're healthy and eat a balanced diet I see no reason why you should take anything supplementary.

I have a sneaking suspicion that one day they'll discover an increased risk of a heap of stuff is caused by taking these. There was something on the news recently about something like that... vague I know but it's before 8 am here, might look later.

If you're sick then for some things alternative stuff can be great, for other things they'll do nothing.

They are supplements. You don't get everything in you by just eating healthy alone. These pills are just adding to your already healthy food pattern.

I usually take a additional Vitamine B pill or a all in 1 vitamine pill where most vitamines and some minerals are in. Just to add what I might miss on the day, if I get too much of something in me, it leaves the body via the normal ways..

Yes, I do take supplements. I take a multivitamin, essential fatty acids 3,6, and 9, and green tea extract. I work out quite a bit, so I supplement with protein also.

Got too love the way people take all that junk because of what it says on the side of the packet.

Isnt it still highly debated that vitamin suppliments do anything at all?

Well, this is the study I was thinking of, and apparently some supplements do worse than nothing, they may increase the risk of mortality by 5%....

I take
saw palmetto for my prostate (I don't feel any different, but prostate problems run in the family).
and
Folic Acid for my gums (which I DO greatly notice the effect of)

I think in general (multi) vitimans are a waste. Even the folic acid I take is significantly less effective then eating health folic acid rich foods. (I should look into those )

oh sometimes I take a spoonful or two of molasses. But mainly cause it tastes good

I take Saw Palmetto (on and off) as I have prostate problems not helped by antibiotics one time I thought it did nothing the next it seemed to be quite effective.

I also take 5-HTP and vitamins (for the D) in winter as I have Seasonal Affective Disorder they are actually quite effective better than a light box ever was. St Johns Wort never really did much.

I used to take Omega-3 not really sure why I stopped and I also use Creatine. Sometimes I use melatonin as a sleep aid and that works really well.
