Default Minding my own business, then *POW* the plane exploded in mid air.
I crashed my E-starter for the millionth time now. I was flying over the river behind my house, minding my own business. It was coming towards the end of the flight so I was doing lots of low flying and just wanted to make one last turn before I land. Then suddenly the plane disintegrated in mid air and I heard a loud *crack* like a rifle shot while it plunged deep into the snow which covered the river. I laughed out loud to myself in the middle of the river. It looked and sounded like it was shot down by a shotgun. As I ran towards it I saw what had happened. Some low hanging power lines were hanging across the river at exactly the right height for them to disappear into the background which was nothing but dark trees. lol I'm glad I wasn't flying a 7 kg Bever.

I'll post a video from the flight after I edit it. I was flying with the camera on board.

It It did survive(ish). The wingmounts broke off, the strutmounts broke and the camera got stuffed full of snow, but it's pretty OK apart from that. Some bits and pieces are missing but that's just lightness added to the plane.

I want a new floatplane now. Thinking aobut getting a big Bever.

More-so weight taken off rather than lightness added; technicalities.

Here's the video. Sorry for taking so long. I have a slow video editing PC and only 200 kbps upload speed: http://www.enrarot.net/videos/e-starter/e-starter35.wmv

I can get it to fly again tomorrow if I could be arsed to repair it. I can't though. I bought some skis for my big aerobatic ship so I will try that tomorrow instead.

What a devious trap! Even a real pilot in the plane could have seen the cables only at the last second.

At first you flew just a few inches underneath the cables, had been a neat trick if you'd actually seen the cables at all.

well if you was a pilot you would have a map with pylons radio masts and power cables on it.
and you plot these things into account with pre sorte planning

anyhoo I could see the cables from the camera but from the ground most likely a different story

It was a good reminder to look around for stuff like that before flying. This is my chuckable plane and I don't plan ahead when I fly it. With my larger planes which weigh several kg I have to be smarter though so that I don't kill people or houses. lol

I suspect terrorists.
Very few terrorists bother coming all the way up here. It's too cold, their beards freeze.

I flew one of my bigger planes today. I'll post a video in a new thread later on.
