Ok strange question I know but it's something I've always kinda aimed for.
The idea is simple, the amount I earn each year is not less or should at least equal my age in years, for example when I was 20 years old I would to be on around 20k a year, 25 years old = at least 25k a year and so on. I know it's not quite as simple as that in the real world but I always thought it was a reasonable target to achieve or at least something to aim for. So what about you lot, do some of you earn a lot less than your age? Maybe some of you are still very young and earn huge amounts of cash... Not that it really matters of course, I'm just kinda interested to see if anyone thinks the same way. |

ah alright
i earn abt 28k € before tax at almost 25 years of age. that is without any extras like bonus, holiday payments etc. i feel that is quite much, especially comparing to some friends of the same age and with similar education/work. it could be more but on the other hand it is more than enough. the bad side of the coin is that almost half of it is deducted for tax, social security.... that is 1/3 more than i earned at the company where i got my training and where i worked for about a year |

i'm 23 and earn a few £ short of £17K a year which considering my locale, the fact that i pissed 3 years of uni up the wall and this is only a stop gap job that i got just because i've worked here on and off since i was 16 is ok.
i'm not happy with the wage though and i'm doing my network+ in order to move into the IT sector... turns out it could be sooner than anticipated too since my local landlord knows the MD of a local(ish) computing company that is progressing into networking and (from what i can tell from their site) dont have a network specific employee. would be happier with around £30K now... but i'm greedy |

That's an interesting way of setting your target... I never thought of it like that before, but it makes sense.
Currently I do earn more than my age, but not by too much (I'm 25). I don't know if I can guarentee a 1K payrise every year though, although it has been more than that every year so far. I guess when my age catches up with my pay it would be a good time to make the jump to the next level ![]() |

Interestingly I've only really just started to earn more than my age now and I'm 29 years old. Up until a few years ago I was on around 24k a year doing SQL Server Database Administration but decided to pack it in, take a break from work then start a fresh. I'm now contracting for a MDC Multi-Disciplinary Company and earning 10 years over my age!
