Default CD/DVD Scratch repairers: any good?
We've got a DVD which won't play because there's a scratch on it. We've bought a repair kit from Asda which looks like you just rub the disc with a cloth and some liquid to repair it. But Max TV do this one which has a machine to repair scratches but is more expensive. Is the Max TV one any good? It's got good reviews on the site, but I don't know if I trust them or not.

Go with one of these
http://www.digitalinnovations.com/products.php?cat=1

I have the hand crank one, but the motorized one gives you a much more uniform surface. It does work. I've used it on a couple of my DVD's.

I have a system similar to the one you have listed, all it's really good for is cleaning mainly. But what I actually do is run the disk through the disk doctor and then use the other cleaner to polish it out.

Yeah I got one for christmas last year. I only ever had one DVD that needed sorting but it did the job. I moved to a smaller place so had to get rid of it since I didn't use it that much but I bet I've got a few CDs laying around me PC that could probably do with it.

I use Auto Glym with a new soft cloth. It's an absolutely remarkable polish and it gets rid of scratches/swirls from much more than just cars.

It may be a long shot but you could try taking it into the movie rental store and asking them if they could fix it for you. I have rented DVD's from them before that skip and take them back and they have an amazing machine that takes out all the scratches and restores the disk to brand new condition pretty much.

Also I had the "disk doctor" from Digital Innovations and it can be good or bad. I've had disks that play for a little bit, then skip/stop because of scratches, I will use the disk doctor on them and then they will not play at all in some older DVD players. So be careful.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I'm still wondering about the one I got from Asda with the liquid and cloth. It's made be Philips and they invented the CD so it ought to be good? But would I be better off with the Max TV one?

So which is best? The Max TV one or the Philips one?

Toothpaste is excellent also, as it's a very mild abrasive, but not nasty enough to scratch the disc.
