Samsung creates $200,000 automated robots with 5.5mm machine guns to be used to defend the south/north korean border.
Looks like ED-209 is one more step to becoming reality. http://www.newlaunches.com/archives/...costs_200k.php comments on that page, make interesting reading too. Apparently the robot sentry can track targets out to 500m, engage multiple targets at night or in the day, and get perfect headshots. Won't take long before they equip something like that with serious firepower, like some 30mm chaingun, then people on the border of korea and other volatile places better keep their heads down out to a mile or so. Couple of years into the future and we'll have the same thing on one of those mini tank tracked things like the "moute" in stargate, stick it on a pre-determined route and it'll do patrols. Hope they release a mini version so I can keep the kids and cats off my front garden, be funny if it fired paintballs but real bullets would be fine! [rofl] EDIT: According to this website, http://www.computing.co.uk/vnunet/ne...s-robot-sentry The robot sentry can track targets upto 2.5 miles in day time and half that at night and then depending on the weapon, I assume, engage those targets...bloody hell! |
