My first, which car should i get thread.
 

Yupp,..

Anyways me and the lady already have a nice family car (Renault megane scenic) and i´m thining about getting myself a car just for the weekend (i barely drive anywhere anyway, i either walk, jog or take a train) so it´s not like i´ll be pushing more than 10,000km a year ?

Anyways atm there are two cars i´m looking at that i really like,
nothing to expensive or to overpowered or whatever.

The first would be the Toyota Celica (preferably the sixth generation 1994 1.8 ST)
Fell in love with it back when Sega Rally came out and have loved it eversince.

and the second choice would be a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro (My Dad used to drive one back when i was like 7-8)

I could obtain either car for probably under 4000 € if not less which would probably require alot of work (i saw a Camaro for sale with 170,000 km and alot of rust http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/wacko1.gif with motor damage for 1600 € last week)
Now, having that said, This would and should be something like a second hobby.
My Uncle has his own Fuel station with a small garage where i could work at and he could help me out after work here and there.(he´s a mechanic, as well as my sisters brother)
Now my Questions are A. which car would be more fun to drive B. Easier to maintain (gas/milage) C. which has the bigger "style" bonus D. how are the costs on used parts for both cars ? and E.which would be easier to restorate ?
I guess if i´d have to answer my own questions i´d say
A. the Camaro B. the Celica C. the Camaro and D. Celica probably more expensive ? E. the Camaro ?

What do you guys think ?

Jokes aside, I don't know about the other option, but I am fairly sure the Camaro would cost quite a bit in fuel! (although you did say that you don't want to drive all that much)

Yeah their nice, but the 94 Celica has always been one of my favorite cars.
The whole deal behind getting a "old" car that needs repairs etc, is to kinda get me out of the house a bit more and finding a new hobby. (Gaming is boring me) It doesn´t even matter if the car would takea year or more to finish,.. (I´m not rockafella anyways so i´d be saving for new parts etc)

From a purely style point of view, I would get the Camaro. Celica's are nothing special IMO and everyone seems to have them (at least around here), but I doubt there will be too many Camaros where you live.

Never by a car with rust. It's like cancer, and is seldom easily fixed. Celica is the easier option. The camaro is the cooler choice but would cost alot for a mint example, or cost alot to be happy with it.

I'd love a Celica and had it been affordabe (insurance wise) I'd have got one.

if the camaro is affordable to run, and you can find a nice one, then id say its a no-brainer. would be an awesome car to own and great for a weekend drive.

Agreed. Thats one of the most important things to look at, when buying a car.

Anyway, I'm no great help here, since I personally would never buy a car which I had to repair myself afterwards. And since you can get nice cars like A4 or S40 for about 5000€ these days I wouldnt even bother with a japanese vehicle.

The Camaro would be the coolest option... but be honest, can you afford the petrol for it?

Get a ~'76 (mk1) celica and drop a straight six of some sort init (rb26, 1jz, etc.)

I would go with the Celica. I've been in the process of restoring a 67 Mustang for well over a year. I havn't even gotten past the body (but hopefully I will sometime REALLY soon). In a nutshell, while 60's and early 70's Muscle cars are really cool,power, and a blast to drive, they are big pieces of ****. The build quality was horrible; these cars were designed to be driven for 5 years and then replaced. Now, if you have the money, the time, and most importantly, the space, you can get yourself a life long hobby going (something gaming isn't, I ditched gaming years ago.) You'll learn everything you would ever want to know about cars, learn skills such as welding, and have blast. With that said, there is a reason why people pay thousands of dollars just for a good body of a muscle car. Body work is dirty, tedious, time consuming, and isn't rewarding until the last layer of paint is buffed. Keep that in mind. You may find that going with the Celica is the better option, especially in Germany. I'm not sure what kind of parts you have access to over there for an American car without paying 2 arms and 2 legs to have it shipped (it already cost us an arm and a leg). Hope this helps.

He says he wants a hobby, bodywork isn't that bad and is a very good skill to learn. It is like cancer if it is REALLY bad but all rust CAN be fixed... it just takes effort.

Finding a 69 camaro without rust would be nearly impossible, unless he spent an a$$load of money and bought a fully restored vehicle.

I vote 69 Camaro. There is nothing like an American V8.

I think both are great choices! But for more practical, daily driving, I'd recommend the Toyota.

A vote for the Toyota here. If you want a reliable, practical everyday car, then it has to be the Celica.

That said, I've always liked the look of it as well ever since I saw them years ago. [yes] I'm personally not fond of any muscle car TBH.

I'd say it depends on what your key motivation is. If you mostly want a hobby get the Camaro, if you mostly want a car to drive now get the Celica.

Personally I'd get the Celica, because I think it would be more fun to drive (never driven either though), cheaper, easier to repair/run and more practical generally.

question: where do u guys find these used cars? i wanna find something for myself, dont know where to look.

Well there are tons of places to look,
starting from the internet (autoscout24, ebay, mobile.de, etc) and then you can always check out local junk yards, news papers and so on.

Well I'm an older guy, so the Camaro would be my choice!.

A. Fun to drive is difficult to decide. Basic Celica is front wheel drive and no turbo. Camaro is rear wheel drive but handling is pretty bad. So neither would be fun to drive fast. Best choice would be Celica GT-Four, AWD with turbo (the actual one you fall in love with in Sega Rally). But from the two you posted I would go with Camaro.

B. Easier to maintain? Both should be fairly easy if you know enough about cars. Check your local auto part stores and see which car has larger part supply. When it comes to gas/milage, I would assume Celica will do better.

C. Style is down to personal prefrences. Unless you can get your hand on a GT-Four Celica, I would say Camaro is better.

D. Pricing on used parts will be difficult to judge. Again, ask your local junk yard or auto part stores.

E. Easier to restore? If you're looking for original parts, Celica hands down. It's newer car and easier to obtain OEM parts.
