Default Expendables 2
Saw it this weekend.

Makes the first one look like an Oscar worthy film.

Didn't even think it could get worse, the jokes are lamer and nothing really works.

It's as bad as an old Van Damme 90's film.

You have inadvertently hit the nail on the head regarding its appeal (nostalgia). There is a generation of 30-40 year olds (myself included) who loved Arnie and crew's cheesy action films of the 80's/90's and want to relive the era.

I wasn't talking about it's commercial prospects or discussing whether there is a market for it or not.

I was arguing that it's a garbage film, significantly worse than the first outing which was bad in it's own right.

If anyone wants action packed over the top films you can watch these two right here, which other than good action films they are excellent films in their own right.

Rather than the mediocre lamery that Expendables and it's sequel provide.

And no, it's doesn't even capture that iconic idiotic cheesiness of those old time actioners, it tries too hard to do that and fails horribly.

My point was a bit oblique. I was trying to point out that to people that loved the original this won't be considered a garbage film (although it certainly won't be considered particularly great).

Yes, I do know that there are a group of people that can appreciate this, they're usually the kind of people who came out of the last Statham film saying that it was pretty good.

Ah, so what you are saying is that these people are below you and you need to snub them?

I wasn't looking for a fight, I was just giving you a bit of insight. I forgot what a snob you are though. You just stay up there in your ivory tower, it's safer.

I wasn't necessarily talking about the people who watch it, I was talking about the film and how good or bad it is.

Anyone is welcome to provide a counter argument, saying that there is a market for it does not really provide that.

And I already said that it even fails at capturing that cheeseball fun in a good way,the film felt forced.

The movie was intended to be an action parody of sorts. It never took itself too seriously, and had a lot of genuinely funny moments. I loved it. Bring on EXP 3.

If it was then it's the worst parody I've ever seen.

Duly noted. Thank you for the thought provoking discussion.

More thought provoking than the film, surely.

Don't start coming up with your ridiculous statements, just 'cos someone doesn't like this shitty film does not mean that they're a snob.

Out of interest, can anyone actually name any decent parodies? The only one I can think of is Galaxy Quest, which manages to not only be funny, but a decent Sci-Fi movie in it's own right.

I think I might be the only guy on the planet that doesn't give a damn about these movies.

It actually just means you are a little girly man in need of testosterone.

Don't pretend that "they're usually the kind of people who came out of the last Statham film saying that it was pretty good." wasn't a smug comment.

Strange as it may sound, a lot of people really prefer bad movies. I should know - my dad will watch anything with Jean Claude van Damme, Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone. Steven Seagal and Jacky Chan are probably his favorites, Seagal in particular.

Do you sell that? One of those "Not only a spokesman, but a CLIENT!" situations?

Haha! Snake oil in a bottle!

I actually would love to come up with something like that, although eventually I'd feel guilty duping people to buy a product that really doesn't work.

That was in reference to the fact that most Statham films are **** and The Expendables would look like a much better film to those people. I don't care about those people, or their opinion. Since anything with enough flying kicks and cheesy lines is a awesome film for them.

Again, they can freely like those movies if they want to.

For this thread I was intending to open a discussion on the merits (or lack of) of The Expendables 2, not a discussion whether there are people who like **** films.

As for a really good action film, I'd recommend this.
