Actually if you have to crash the brick wall is one of the best options. They tend to give. What you do not want to hit is a tree. They are very unforgiving. You speak from experience?

No, not personal, but my daughter hit a tree after being hit at speed in a 40MPH by an elderly woman driving a small hatchback. She was knocked off the road and was stoped by a tree. Car was a total write off. Luckily seriously hurt rather than injured.

The old saying "it's not speed that kills it's the sudden stop at the end"....

Very true Colin. I have seen people walk away from 90 MPH crashes, whereas my daughter was doing less than 10 MPH. Luckily I saw my daughter (the ambulance was already there) before I saw the mangled car otherwise I might have had another heart attack.

THE ROAD TO SAMARA
A merchant in Baghdad sends his servant to the marketplace for provisions. Shortly, the servant comes home white and trembling and tells him that in the marketplace he was jostled by a woman, whom he recognised as Death, and she made a threatening gesture. Borrowing the merchant's horse, he flees at top speed to Samara, a distance of about 75 miles (125 km), where he believes Death will not find him. The merchant then goes to the marketplace and finds Death, and asks why she made the threatening gesture. She replies, "That was not a threatening gesture, it was only a start of surprise. I was astonished to see him in Baghdad, for I had an appointment with him tonight in Samara."

This little story is used as a foreword in APPOINTMENT IN SAMARA by JOHN O'HARA. I am a great believer in that we are all to a great extent responsible for our own actions and in control of or destiny. But sometimes that dice rolls...................
