Default Social Studies teacher: Don't you dare say bad things about the President!
Affirmative action teacher protects affirmative action president. Shocking.

She was just suspended without pay, by the way.

I shudder to imagine someone so poorly informed teaching anyone anything.

She said some stupid crap when by the sounds of it some precocious little **** was yanking her chain a bit. No she shouldn't have her career ruined over it.

The teacher is right. The one thing I learned from FOX News during the Bush administration is that criticizing the president is tantamount to treason.

You don't deserve health care. Obama has no right to tell Catholics to fund contraception.

Newsflash, this just in! The Catholic Church lost the war against contraceptive a long time ago!

So why doesn't the clergy ex-communicate 98 percent of the Catholic women from the Catholic religion for using contraceptives?

The 98% figure, like many oft-cited statistics, is a bit misleading:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...eqIR_blog.html

In other words, a woman may have sex only once, or she may have had a partner who only used a condom once, and then she would be placed in the 98 percent category. Jones said the correct way to describe the results of the research is this:

“Data shows that 98 percent of sexually experienced women of child-bearing age and who identify themselves as Catholic have used a method of contraception other than natural family planning at some point in their lives.” EDIT: While we're discussing misleading statistics, the "abortion is only 3% of Planned Parenthood's services" line is also misleading. That figure is achieved by treating every service separately; about one out of every ten women who goes to PP gets an abortion. Still small, but not ridiculously so.

Why is that misleading? Is it only a sin if you do it a certain number of times?
"Have used it at some point" and "currently/regularly use it" are two different things. As are "women who have had sex" and "women who are currently sexually active." Also, note that 15% either used nothing at all or practiced the ludicrous (still not Church-approved) "withdrawal" method. It's really just that only 2% bother with natural family planning.

North Rowan High teacher suspended after yelling at student over Obama criticism

By: JournalNow Staff | From staff and wire reports
Published: May 22, 2012 Updated: May 22, 2012 - 12:24 AM

SPENCER --
A Rowan County high school teacher was suspended with pay from her job Monday following the release of a YouTube video in which she is heard yelling at a student in class and telling him it's wrong to criticize President Barack Obama.

The 10-minute video captured the sound of the dispute but mostly showed what appeared to be the classroom ceiling at North Rowan High School. It had about 450,000 views on YouTube as of Monday evening and was the focus of national media attention, including from talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

In the video, Tanya Dixon-Neely and her students debate several political issues, including a discussion about Obama and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

The conversation starts with the class talking about recent accusations that Romney bullied someone as a teen in the 1960s. Dixon-Neely, a social studies teacher, then argues with some students who question whether Obama bullied someone in high school as well.

"That's disrespect. This man (Romney) is a presidential candidate. He's not the president," Dixon-Neely is heard shouting. "Let me tell you something. You will not disrespect the president of the United States in this classroom."

"I'll say what I want," a male student replied.

"Not about him you won't," Dixon-Neely replied.

"I'm going to call my dad real quick. We'll see," the student added. "I didn't disrespect him. I was just asking a question. I have different beliefs."

Later in the video, at least one student curses when the discussion changes to former President George W. Bush.

"Do you realize that people were arrested for saying things bad about Bush?" Dixon-Neely said. "You are not supposed to slander.

"As a social studies teacher I cannot allow you to slander any president in here, past or present. If that's the case, somebody could say negative things about the tea party."

Limbaugh spent several minutes discussing the incident on his radio show Monday.

"Now, I ask you, is the teacher a liberal? Is the teacher nonpartisan? Is the teacher apolitical? No way," Limbaugh said. "This teacher is a full-fledged leftist. There's no question about it. And sounds very much like a jerk to boot."

Dixon-Neely has been suspended with pay, said Rita Foil, a spokeswoman for the Rowan-Salisbury School System.

An employee with the district said school officials have been flooded with calls from around the nation. The district released a statement Monday.

"The Rowan-Salisbury School System expects all students and employees to be respectful in the school environment and for all teachers to maintain their professionalism in the classroom," the statement says. "This incident should serve as an education for all teachers to stop and reflect on their interaction with students. Due to personnel and student confidentiality, we cannot discuss the matter publicly."

Dixon-Neely couldn't be reached for comment Monday night.

Dixon-Neely has been suspended with pay, said Rita Foil, a spokeswoman for the Rowan-Salisbury School System. 2nd Article says suspended with pay. Yay, early sumer vacation

And as if it needs repeating, Oerdin is always wrong, this is not a clear sign the system worked.
