I don't appreciate the fact that the video showed a black stick figure, them mentioned learning how to cook fried chicken.

Actually this just makes me feel tired. Our freedoms are under attack from so many angles, most of them corporate sponsored it seems, that it feels like fighting a tireless, immortal hydra.

Worse when so many people whose freedoms are at risk could not possibly care less.

EFF, ACLU and morons like me (The usual suspects) will run off to dig up our white horses once again, but its getting really really really tiring and discouraging.

Every time someone says "if you have nothing to hide" or any other retarded statement that shows they couldn't care less about freedom and don't deserve to be a citizen of the united states I want to throw them off a cliff.

This country was founded on freedom, yet every day the government finds new ways to take freedoms away. Terrorism! Children! OMG we have to take away your freedoms because if we don't there's a .001% chance something bad will happen.

All these lost freedoms and we sure as hell don't seem to be stopping child rape, terrorism, murder, domestic violence, or anything else. I want the America I read about in history class back. The damned country is so mollycoddled. Take the warning labels off everything, stop holding people's hands and walking them through life, and let's see people fend for themselves.

Yay for Darwinism!
Bring back personal responsability - and some actual penalties for corporations that knowingly deceive and do harm to their clients and consumers - heck, for incomperence as well!
Actual reparation for victims that more than makes up for the harm that criminals have done them - sod the trend for minor fines, minimum security prisons and ASBO type penalties when actual harm has been done to victims! How about some penalties that actually have criminals thinking twice and realising it isn't worth it!

No.

And its gotten so bad that they don't even feel the need to hide the corruption and bribery. After all, the majority of people have already proven that they could care less.

Former Senator Chris Dodd lays Bribery right out in the open

If he thinks he can blurt stuff like that on the open airwaves and not cause a stir....... Its probably because he knows from experience how apathetic we are.

If this forces ISPs to do the filtering, everyones bills are just going to increase and ping could drastically increase.

Need to just start the ball rolling on encrypting all at least most internet traffic. I think that even a basic low level of encryption would be enough with all the amount of data that goes through ISPs to discourage opening it up. Plus would they even have the legal right to open up encrypted files, even with a basic and easy to crack encryption?

Piracy, much like terrorism, is a tool used to sensationalize the passing of bills that rape the constitution. A few people do bad things, and before you know it the media is blasting it 24/7 and useless congressmen are trying to pass laws because they were lobbied to do so. Very few people that I know are capable of building a PC, and even less have the cognitive ability to pirate anything. While a small percentage of internet users wear the quantity of files they pirate as a badge of honor, the vast majority of internet users don't even know how to use bit-torrent or newsgroups. I simply do not buy into this piracy vendetta whatsoever.

Piracy is an issue, and there are plenty of people who know how to download. If they don't there is always someone at work who "can get you a copy". Companies invest a lot of time and money in to their work, so do the artists and actors, along with the staff and so on and have the right to protect their intellectual property. Now while I don't agree with this act, I do believe that piracy needs to be curtailed. The only way to do this imo ( it can't ever be stopped totally ) is to lower significantly the costs of the media, cinema tickets and so on.

Would never happen. They'd have to lower the prices to the point pirates couldn't make any money off of it. And even then you'd still get pirates. They should just accept it's not possible to win and accept it. They could start by not filling 15 minutes of ads and trailers too!

Instead, they do the exact opposite. Ticket prices are at an all-time high, and gimmicks like 3D (which can be enjoyable if done right) have an obscene up-charge. If I had two kids and a wife, and wanted to take them to a 3D screening of Hugo, it would cost over $60, not to mention concessions (or in my case, sneaking a beer or two in). Pirated screeners are generally of horrendous quality, and I still stand by the fact that most people who pirate wouldn't have watched/purchased the material anyway.

Amazon and iTunes have succeeded with this idea. The music is non-DRM which means I can play it on everything. Its so easy and convenient. Here a song I like? Look it up on Amazon (my preferred), if its not there check iTunes. Click to buy, pay $7-10 US have entire album instantly.

Why pirate music when Amazon and iTunes have made it SOOO easy to get it legally. Instead of "Want, Take, Have." its "Want. Buy. Have.".

And it works I feel no temptation to scour the net looking to pirate something because I'm lazy.

Actually this is very true. I just bought two albums off of Amazon today as a matter of fact, because I saw they had a $5 album sale going on. I browsed through, and found two albums that I actually wanted and bought them. I am a huge music pirate, but I've bought more digital albums in the last month than I've bought solid CD's in my entire life.
Same thing as those ludicrous Steam sales, games I normally wouldn't have given a crap about come on sale for cheap, and its easier to just click "gimmie this" and get it, than to go hunt down the pirated version which would probably work just as well.

Some very good posts there!

I'd just add that some pirate purely because they can, without any actual desire for the products they're downloading - similarly, some will distribute just because they can.

That's all well and good but doesn't solve piracy, just a very good option to get music. And no risk of downloading something and paying to repair the PC.

Piracy is here to stay. Create good enough content and people will spend their hard earned money on it. Making content easily and readily accessible has done wonders to lessen piracy (i.e iTunes, amazon, Steam etc).

Mmm the American government constantly say "the land of the free" etc. is a joke really because they seem to be trying to take as much of it away as possible.

This is true, the ppl defending these bills and writing these bills tend to consider every download as a loss of revenue when in reality the person downloading, like you said, never intended to buy it in the 1st place.

So those ridiculous figures they post as a loss a revenue are fictional
