What have you been reading?

I'm reading the sci-fi series of Pern.

nursopoutaras 06-29-2011 04:17 AM

Pern? As in the old dragon riders series?

Hey slow down there! I only just started - I finished the Chronicles of Pern anthology and the novel, Dragonsdawn. Next one I need to get a hold of is Dragonsblood.

I really wouldn't read them in the in-universe chronological order. Publication order would make for a better understanding of the world, characters and culture.

Your loss.

ionitiesk 06-30-2011 10:10 PM

You can do that in reverse order, see how things are and then how they got there. Anyway, if you don't care that there may be references in the later books that could act as spoilers to things published earlier, then by all means carry on.

Let me know what you think of the third pass books, I've not bothered to read them yet.

XGoFivk7 06-30-2011 11:37 PM

I thought that the first 1-2 pern books were the best, the rest I dn't conisder worth owning.

Never read that.

metropropuskruww 07-02-2011 01:25 PM

Uh, because they have nothing to do with the Pern series.

That analogy flew completely over your head didn't it? http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gif

The Silmarillion was chronologically before The Hobbit an LOTR.

So you should have read it first.

http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/tongue.gif ACK!

TypeTeasiaDer 07-03-2011 05:15 AM

You haven't read any of them? I'd keep that to myself if I were you. Might get your nerd card revoked.

insoneeri 07-03-2011 05:30 AM

Watching the HBO series got me to finally start reading the Song of Ice and Fire series.

Gakeincidoniac 07-13-2011 12:29 AM

Jack McDevitt Alex Benedict series and Karl Schroeder Virga Series

grinaJanoDant 07-13-2011 02:10 AM

Just download "A Dance With Dragons" by George R.R. Martin this morning. Of course, getting back up to speed, reading the summaries of the rest of the series, has been paramount (can we get the next book released before 5 years from now?) The damn thing was $10 last night on the Kindle store, but now its $15. Its a bit too expensive IMO for something that is inferior, in almost every respect, to the actual book. Not to mention that the hardback version is only $19.

This is the reason why I am thinking of getting the hardback version.

I see it in the store for 20$. I would have gotten it definitely for 10$.
