TOKYO - Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) or Super Hi-Vision, an 8K system that delivers 16 times the resolution of current HD (high definition) technology, is approved by the International Telecommunication Union as the next generation global television format.
Japanese broadcaster NHK showed off the technology in London during the Olympics, where audiences said it gave them a sense of being at the events. NHK Super Hi-Vision screen graphic NHK says Super Hi-Vision screens will offer users the opportunity to enjoy wider viewing angles "In our view, it is a far more significant development than 3D, which offers a limited range of use-cases." One analyst said the displays would probably remain beyond most people's budgets for more than a decade. "I suspect that we won't see this become available to consumers below $10,000 until 2025" Link -BBC News.co.uk It looks 3D... But isn't.... WHAT KIND OF SORCERY IS THIS?! (Youtube comment) |

This is pointless for the size of TV most people have. It's only really useful at events where you have massive screens to display on. |

Yes, and HD was useless when it first came out, and so was the DVD...the point is that technology is moving forward and that can only be a good thing. Eventually people will have this instead of a projector for their movie room. Think big Bungle. |

I am suddenly dissatisfied with my 480p superphone. I need 8K on my 4.3" display to feel good about myself again. I am going to let the absence of this technology in my life affect my mental health. I am going to treat the people in my life with less regard until I can launch an angry bird at 8K in the palm of my hand. When I have my 8K superduperphone, I will laugh at all the people who have phones with sub-8K displays, and scoff at the need for anything beyond 8K.
I will repeat this process once 64K ubersuperduperphones become the next standard. |

I am thinking, which is why I said what I did. You're the one who's not. DVD was "useless" when it first came out? Um no it wasn't, and neither was HD. |

Considering how the average TV size has gone up over the years, it shouldn't be too surprising. --- Post Update --- This is pointless for the size of TV most people have. It's only really useful at events where you have massive screens to display on. |
