But so was All in the Family. BBT and HIMYM are both fine for what they are, which is joke a minute sitcoms. There is not much depth to them, but it could be worse... they could be Will and Grace. But it went downhill very fast and for the last few seasons it has been nothing but utter garbage. BBT is almost the same but much less funny. |

Don't know about All in the family but HIMYM was exactly what you said, for the first couple of seasons, although nothing amazing, the running jokes were great and the show has a real thing on it's hand. With BBT i thought it got better with the seasons. At least it's funnier than the new TAAHM season with kutcher |

Ye I stopped watching HIMYM somewhere season 5.. Barney was fun the first 2 or maybe 3 seasons but then his jokes get old really fast. Also didn't help to know that the womanizer in fact doesn't even 'like' women. With BBT i thought it got better with the seasons. At least it's funnier than the new TAAHM season with kutcher I won't say it's worse that HIMYM, they both exist in the same tawdry, weak and inoffensive world of early night network shows. TAAHM was always crap. |

Think whatever you want - it works the same for me as having t-bag from Prison Break suddenly play in Heroes or Hitman. I know he was pretending to be T-bag in prison break, but his performance in heroes was less convincing to me because I linked him with T-bag. |

Just as you were saying a few weeks ago in that thread about gays making out disturbing you. The problem is not them. It's you. |

Thanks, I'll ignore your opinions on tv shows and films in general in the future. ![]() Whatever dude. I know it's not weird that the performance of an actor is influenced by the way you think of him. What if Adam Sandler suddenly would play the new 007? Regardless of whether he would do a good job or not, it would still suck because of the view you have of Adam Sandler. It's why I think TV shows with "new" actors can be more convincing to me. It's why the performance of barney can be affected by who he is and what he has done. |

Biggest example of having pre-conceptions about something/someone. It's like when you find out the actress you think is hottest turns out to be married. In the back of your mind there was always that imagination that you could end up banging her one day before then. I'm not explaining myself very well, but hopefully you get the point. |

Oooh.. you hurt my feelings now You practically declared that your view of films is filled with preconceptions and childish observations which make your opinion unreliable and practically void. How am I supposed to take any of your future statements about a film or tv show seriously if there might be some ridiculous preconception hindering your appreciation of the film ? Are you also discouraged by the masses of hetero actors that constantly play gay characters in films ? Because that is exactly the same paradigm that you implied in your earlier post. |

My intention was not spite; that statement was serious. |

if you correlate real life to TV that is. It's like when you find out the actress you think is hottest turns out to be married. In the back of your mind there was always that imagination that you could end up banging her one day before then. I'm not explaining myself very well, but hopefully you get the point. Yes, you sometimes have your mind wander towards a preconceived idea about an actor, probably from a previous role or actions in real life. But I don't expect a grown adult to include that in the final summation of a film. Calm down cheech Calm down cheech I'm just wanted to put a few points forward. |

My intention was not spite; that statement was serious. But if you think having a preconception about an actor is childish: answer my question about Adam Sandler. Would you be able to watch him play 007 without a preconception? I think not. Preconception will affect the way you see a performance. Another example: It would be very hard for "house" to successfully play in another hospital tv show as somebody else because he "IS" house. |
