Default Couple orders TV on Amazon, receives a semi-automatic Assault rifle!
Police in Washington are investigating how a man ordered a colour television set via Amazon and ended up with a high-powered semi-automatic assault rifle instead. telegraph.co.uk

Around 6 o'clock Tuesday evening, Seth Horvitz opened his door, expecting to find a package containing a television he'd ordered through Amazon.com. But instead of his new gadget, he found a semi-automatic rifle.

Horvitz instantly knew that the long, narrow box on his doorstep couldn't possibly contain the television he and his wife ordered. "I actually flagged down the UPS guy and asked if there was anything else for me," Horvitz told TODAY.com. Confused, he took the box inside and opened it.

At first, when he saw some metal parts, he thought, "maybe it was some accessories for the television."

But that thought didn't last long. Horvitz soon found himself staring at a Sig Sauer SIG716.

Still surprised, Horvitz logged into his Amazon account and contacted the individual from whom he'd ordered a used Westinghouse television. While he did place his order through Amazon, it was in fact for an item offered by an independent seller with a storefront on the online retail site.

"It was clearly the wrong package from beginning to end," Horvitz said, pointing out that even the invoice included with the firearm was quite clear: It was for $1,589 and listed a different seller and buyer. Full Article NBCNews.com

Horvitz paid $324, including shipping, for his missing television. He won't be using it any time soon, but he is being refunded for the amount.

Yeah! That's exactly what I also thought too ($1000 + Profit! However I know it's illegal held gun and a complaint by the original purchaser to Amazon Market place, would eventually lead right back to him anyhow).

--- Post Update ---

On second thoughts, the original purchaser(Pennsylvania gun shop) might have been thrilled/delighted with his new $300 T.V that he also got mistakenly instead.Cheers

I hate the phrase "Only in USA" etc cos it's usually a gross over-generalization of some kind but in this case it's true.

Yeah only in USA will you get a decent, brand new semi-auto rifle for the price of a piece of **** $300 TV. What's not to like.

No it isn't. It's illegal in parts of Europe.

Can you name countries where it's legal to buy firearms online? Not talking about air guns and the like but full-blown rifles/pistols.

Where else can you go online, buy a semi-automatic assault rifle and have it delivered to your door ?

I'm surprised that this just came via UPS with no high-security. Maybe that's normal for firearms.

Do you? Based on your knowledge of US History (and just about everything else) I would say that you should stay out of this.

Are you allowed to carry?

You seem a bit unstable.

I'm guessing his persona in RL is far different. Either that or he's a hard arse. I'm guessing he's probably a skinny runt.

When you purchase a rifle online, they aren't supposed to send it to you directly. Generally what happens is the seller sends the gun to a local dealer, who gets a small commission on the sale and by law is required to hold the weapon for a few days and do a background check with the FBI. Once that clears, you are able to go and pick it up. Obviously this was all a mistake, but Amazon clearly messed up and could face legal ramifications for what they did. The kid will more than likely be required to send the gun back to Amazon. Contrary to popular belief, it's really not that easy to purchase a firearm in the US of A.

OK. That's not much different than phoning a store and asking them to order Make/Model, though.

It's not Amazon at fault, although they will be partially blamed. It's the whole eBay-style Marketplace. None of that stuff goes to Amazon. The seller should be prosecuted to the max.
