Reason #1

If you think you are more knowledgeable about film or somehow your judgment is as valid as those with doctorates in art history, literature, or film studies then your hubris is even greater than I imagined.
While this might have a modicum of bearing when it comes to art house flicks, I thought generally everyone in this thread was aware we are talking about general cinema releases? In that case there are no experts.

Knowing a lot about something doesn't mean you're opinion is any less subjective.

--- Post Update ---

Of course they have an expert eye, have you ever read a proper review by a proper writer ?
What a hilariously dumb retort.

The point is that reviews are just an opinion. We've been through this time and time again on here, and still the same black and white thinkers seem to think that if the spec is the best then it must be the best.

Think back across the last million films you have seen and remind yourself that about half your friends hate it, and the other half loved it.

--- Post Update ---

We're not talking about garden-variety hacks who get paid to crank out a review for their local circuit rider. Have you even read so much as a sentence by David Denby, Pauline Kael, or Bazin? I'm guessing not since their work typically appeared in lefty rags like the Guardian that you shun.
The only things I consider before going to see a film are what the plot is and who stars in it. I genuinely couldn't give a toss about what someone else thought of it.

And you are our pillar of stupid.

Do you really think there is some higher level of reviewing a Bruce Willis film that the rest of us don't know about?

Yes, the criteria can work with even something as dumb as The Expendables or Sex and the City the movie.

You need to get a grip of something, anything!

How many sex and the city fans do you think read a review?

It's not about the fans needing the reviews.

Reviews are not for fans, fans opinions are obviously hindered by them being fans of the film already.

I give up. Just email me a document saying that you're always right and I'll sign it.

Movies are entertainment.

People can enjoy them as they wish... in fact, I find that I enjoy bad movies more than good ones. I do not need a reviewer to point this out.

--- Post Update ---

I do.

I don't even skim reviews to judge if the film is worth watching, I also usually read them after I watch the film, most of the times anyway.
Why would you read reviews if you are just going to find a way to hate the film?

If you live your life thinking "This is going to suck" before everything you do, you do not need reviews to help you hate. You are a professional hater.

There is prior evidence to suggest that he would.

Where did I say that the reviews make me hate the film ?

I just said that reading reviews exposes me to different opinions about the film itself. If the writing and critique is good it can be very entertaining and enlightening.

Who lives their life thinking "this is going to suck" ?

I prefer going into a film, carte blanche.....

When have you ever liked something? (I do not want that question answered)

You, Sparafucil, and most teenagers have a similar reaction to new things: you dislike anything that is popular. Hating popular things because they are popular does not make you enigmatic and interesting... it makes you unpleasant. Most of the time, there is a reason for its popularity, you just have to see it for yourself.

Do you want to be in the same category as that lonely French ****? Because you are, I hope this has been an illuminating conversation for you.

Huh ?

You need to stop making these assumptions.

Those are the vibes you give off...if someone has anything new your first reaction is to make a detrimental comment, you're constantly saying stuff is rubbish for no other reason than you're trying to look cool.

Dude, focus. Let's get through this.

Off the top of my head, I remember you hating on:
  1. Tupuc's hologram
  2. The Expendables (**** YOU for this one, btw)
Both of which were what they were supposed to be.

Example: I watched a movie with my GF's little niece that was supposed to teach letters. The movie had so many plot holes and was unrealistic and generally sucked... but I don't think that was the point.

I have a feeling that had you been in my place, you would have filled her 3 year old ears with all of its flaws and ignored the fact that she can now draw and recognize L, J, W and Z.

tl;dr: Hate is not cool. Relax.

I just say my opinion, seriously. Impressing you with my coolness wouldn't even be on my list.

It just might be the odds of what people post here.

Maybe the films and music people post on here are mostly on my **** list, but really, I don't hesitate at all to say that I really like something.

Sheep. Liking things because they are popular is the default prerogative of the common mind. Think for yourself.

In my experience, you put more time into finding things to complain about than anyone has a right to.

How are those Dr. Dre's Beats holding up? I can just picture you jamming to Top 40s with them on your way to work each morning like a complete muppet.

What part of "you just have to see it for yourself" did you not understand?
So you're saying it's just a coincidence everything you like is mainstream, popular crap?
