How much fuel would this laser have to ignite to make up that much power? Power is energy over time. Time, in this case is ~0.000000000002 seconds. Energy, in this case is 1.85MJ or ~0.5kWh. About the amount that my PC will consume in one hour. For a pew-pew, that is a lot, but it is not pulling the grid down. The real challenge is designing the capacity is dissipate that much energy so quickly (which is what the article is about, really). tl;dr: it is not a lot of total energy, it is about the controlled speed of the dissipation. |
