He wasn't saying you misspelled the word; he was saying you used the WRONG word. The fact that you went and posted this is just embarrassing. I mean, if you even looked at the definition you posted you would've realized that you used the wrong word.

don

2
verb (used with object), donned, don·ning.to put on or dress in: to don one's clothes.

I'm afraid none of those definitions make any sense in the context of your sentence either. You cannot dawn the NFL, and you are the first human being on the planet to say otherwise. In fact, if you Google the phrase "dawn the NFL", you are the very first result. Though, there is somebody else that used the phrase "dawn the NFL jersey of their new team", which makes far more sense than yours (he just meant to use don).

Keep digging your hole deeper and deeper, though.

What you were obviously going for was "Jerry Rice is the greatest player to ever don an NFL jersey." Unfortunately when you previously heard that phrase you didn't know that don was a word so you assumed it was dawn and ran with it, much to my amusement.

GhostBear I apologize for my behavior in this thread. I was intentionally trying to wind you up and it was uncalled for. I am sorry and in the future I will attempt to be a kinder and less confrontational person.
