Nope, it was Fifield that attacked the ship. Holloway was already dead by that point.

Here's my take on a couple of things people might have missed:
Spoiler!
1. Humans think of themselves as Gods, and created David in their own image. When released out of sleep, the Engineer was actually sympathetic to Shaw's crying at first, but then saw David and ripped his head off. He was obviously pissed that the humans created another "God" instead of realizing where their true origins came from. David is essentially the "Jesus" character, which is by him washing his "disciple's" feet in the end (Weyland). John 13:5

2. I believe the "snake" creatures are intended to kill or at least main their "host" in preparation for a face hugger like creature. Just like the one dude died from the snake, the Engineer was killed when Cthulhu mouth raped him, then began going all "face-hugger" by starting the impregnation process.

That movie blew ass, just got back from seeing it. It is clear that Ridley Scott has officially lost it (Robin Hood was **** too).

1. The story is absolutely bland and uninteresting not to mention poorly written.
2. The characters were EXTREMELY dull and MASSIVELY underdeveloped.
3. The movie is filled with bad cliches.
4. Poor Design
5. Lastly, and more importantly, it shits all over the continuity with the origin Alien movie.

Move along folks, nothing to bother with here.

My favorite part is two of the dead people come back as attacking zombies, which they manage to kill, then NO ONE BRINGS IT UP AGAIN OR ASKS ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT IT.

They just move along like nothing ever happened after this element which wasn't necessary to the plot at all.

That is only one example of many.

Good parts?

Special FX. Woopty Do.

The story is bland. Is full of cliches. No characterization. I am pretty sure I understood the movie.

I understood it just fine, and you are right. It is bland.

Think of the crew on the ship Alien. You can mention something about each character and feel like you know something about them.

The crew on this ship is so underdeveloped that they felt like immature children.

It was COMICAL how easy the two crew members on the ship are ready to commit suicide without even thinking about it. "I'LL STILL WANT THAT BET" "YEAH ON THE OTHER SIDE LAWL"

And like I said, worst of all, it shits on the continuity of Alien.

Go re watch Alien. There is zero character development in that movie.

Clearly you haven't watched Alien. You learn quite a bit about Ripley, not to mention Ash, Parker, and Lambart.

No one has an arch in Prometheus. Just 17 generic characters who you either learn nothing about or they are 1-dimensional and flat.

Spoiler! I did think there were some issues with the storyline. First off, if it went wrong for the Space Jockeys ( they were seen running for their lives! ) and they had all got infected then why were there no Aliens running about the place? It was clearly mentioned that one had a burst chest! What actually happened to the Space Jockeys, adn what really went wrong? Also at the end, she had 2 mins of oxygen remaning yet she never changed her suit from what I saw and went straight back outside again. Also David said he could fly other ships, but surely they would have Aliens on them so why would she want to fly it as David is clearly not to be trusted and would probably fly her back to earth?! Finally why did the other ships not take off, did the same thing happen to them as the main ship, again this was not explained.
7/10 ( would have been 6/10 as a standalone film, the extra mark is for explaining the origin story well ) I dunno if it was answered by anyone but...

Spoiler! No aliens because it wasn't even the same ship or planet. The alien at the end is not the same one from the films. There was signs of Aliens, but it could well be that there was none directly as we know it. The engineers were experimenting on the planet. Various DNA flying everywhere.

Wow. You clearly did not understand the movie.
EDIT: Can't believe that statement actually. A 1 year old could understand the plot.

I completely agree with EaG as much as it pains me....

I do not understand how anyone with any appreciation for Ridley's older movies can like this one at all. Everything EaG said was what i said after the film. So many plot holes (despite one of the simplest stories ever in a movie) ruined everything.

As EaG said again the VFX were stunning but they are there to enhance an atmosphere that should of been. No suspense. No scary moments. The fact that it was a prequel to alien was an afterthought btw and was not the original idea when Ridley wrote the film. Oh, and the ****ING MUSIC! That was terrible aswell. Felt like i was watching an 80's scary film when something "jumpy" happened.

All the characters were 1D apart from Fassbender who's performance was very good. I could keep on and on about the bad bits in the film, I was thoroughly disappointed in the whole thing afterwards. Such a shame.

EDIT: there will be many many people that come out with their own reasons and elaborate stories for the unanswered questions, claiming it was clever etc... i just see it as extremely poor writing.

--- Post Update ---

The more i think about it the more i get annoyed. I really wanted it to be good and it was just plain terrible. Acupuncture i would love for you to answer all the questions i have about the film.... put them all in spoiler tags so noone gets annoyed at me ruining the film for them...

1. Spoiler! Why was the alien human on earth at the beggning, and why did he kill himself...

2. Spoiler! How did all our very very very distant ancestors draw a solar system/star system that is stated in the film could not be seen with the human eye.

3. Spoiler! Why were the 2 guys that got lost shitting themselves then when they see an alien worm they pull themselves together and want to touch it....

4. Spoiler! Why did the human aliens want to destroy earth? There is no explanation at all for this, and why create some advanced biology experiment to kill us considering there size and tech around them...

5. Spoiler! Did you not think the birth of the alien that has no link to the other aliens in the other films, came out of knowhere.....

6. Spoiler! How was she able to move around after the operation that cut through her core stomach muscles.....

7. Spoiler! How was she going to survive without food and water when leaving the planet to look for who created "them"... #

If i think of anymore, as i am sure there are a lottt more, i will post them up.

Lets see what elaborate story you can come up with to try and defend these major floors that were all throughout the film. Dont get me wrong i am all for a bit of mystery, but **** me, I need to write a whole new story in my head to make sense of all the problems in this film.

Spoiler! 1. Spoiler! Why was the alien human on earth at the beggning, and why did he kill himself...
ridley spoke about this and said its about self sacrifice and how the engineers dna is so powerful it can kickstart life etc. its not 100% on earth. no comment on it being dumb, but thats what he said.

2. Spoiler! How did all our very very very distant ancestors draw a solar system/star system that is stated in the film could not be seen with the human eye.
because, ridley scott intended for jesus to be an engineer. so probably he spread the gospel and star charts.
im not even joking :/

3. Spoiler! Why were the 2 guys that got lost shitting themselves then when they see an alien worm they pull themselves together and want to touch it....
its hard to answer this without sounding snarky. in this scene i just see the characters behavior altering to fit the plot.

4. Spoiler! Why did the human aliens want to destroy earth? There is no explanation at all for this, and why create some advanced biology experiment to kill us considering there size and tech around them...
see [2]. we killed ridleys spsce jesus, is one reason they could be mad. about the tech? its not necessarily just to kill us.

5. Spoiler! Did you not think the birth of the alien that has no link to the other aliens in the other films, came out of knowhere.....
its showing how the eitr (black goo) ultimately leads to (some kind of) xenomorph alien being created

6. Spoiler! How was she able to move around after the operation that cut through her core stomach muscles.....
because really awesome staples. it was so silly.

7. Spoiler! How was she going to survive without food and water when leaving the planet to look for who created "them"...
because lindorf.

you can explain most of them with "ridley intended jesus to be an alien", "lindorf", "plot device" or "the myth of pandora".

1st answer... again you didn't answer my question. are you saying it was accidental the creation and the suicide?

2nd answer is not what i asked....read again. How did they draw something that couldnt be seen... I know they were the reasons for the trip...

3rd answer... found this a bit stupid compared to the reaction when nothing was around them... but just me then...

4th playing with life? It all seemed like an accident in the first place.... So your analogy doesn't really work.

5th and 6th fair enough.

7th ... its a valid question...imo a stupid end to a simple boring film.
1- That's how they create life, The black ooze + life = something else. Think of it being a giant chemistry set.
2- I did answer it. They had no idea, so went searching for answers. They found the markers around the world, and had no idea how or why they are there. They found the set of planets that matched and went exploring. This is explained in like the first 20mins of the film, quite clearly....
3- Humans are stupid.
4- Ofc it does. They were playing with life, trying to create things for war. They were experimenting and created us, then wanted to wipe us out to further the experiment. Space jockeys see themselfs as the ultimate. We prooved that we had become a somewhat challenger race.
7- Not answering this as its stupid.

# Well, since no one is really answering this one, I'll give it a stab.

The ships have cryopods. She won't need food.
