Do you open doors for girls?

Not on a date, or your significant other... but just that randomwoman that is right behind you as you go into "x". Do you open the door and allow them in first? I always have, but am finally getting fed up with it. Maybe 1 in 20 say thanks, maybe... Bitches don't have any manners. You know who does, though? Guys. If, say there is a guy right behind her, he will always say thank you.

I am of the opinion that being considerate is just pointless nowadays. Girls always let the door slam on me, or won't open it if my arms are full, or any other litany of examples. Manners these days seem like little more than a reason for people to trample you. It is sad, but imo, true.

I tend to open doors for everyone (I.E, if they are coming towards the door from the other side and could do with it being opened due to having arms full of stuff) or if they are following fairly close behind me I'll hold the door open behind me after I've walked through it..... I've always done it, never really pay attention to what gender the person is. Often people say thanks but not all the time.

Never really thought about it before.

As ^^^ said, I've also allowed doors to slam closed on [female dogs] who've said in snooty tones that they could manage without my help http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/devil1.gif

Yeah these bitches have a right cheek don't they.

Dertrioz 06-07-2012 03:35 PM

I usually hold a door open for anyone following a short distance behind.

Some people can't be bothered to say thank you though. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo.../rolleyes1.gif

I'm certainly not going to hold a door open for someone just because they are a woman.

Modern day Chivalry? Yes, in a world full of arséholes, trolls, low life wannabies, and damn right rudeness. Its nice to think that there is some level of politeness out there. Women, Elders, disabled and children go first, for men I'll pass through the door, but hold it a jar unless its more logical for them to go first.

Having said that, anyone who doesn't thank me vocally, or acknowledge my gesture with atleast a smile or nod always gets a "You're welcome" in a slight sarcastic tone as they pass me.

jisee 06-07-2012 05:52 PM

Indeed I do, and well as for guys. I agree, however, that men actually say thanks more often. However, a good deed done simply for gratitude is not a good deed at all.

This.

I make more effort with those chunky doors and older people and ppl with push chairs.

koebforfrn 06-07-2012 06:27 PM

I make a point of helping those http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/cool1.gif

Yes because no one else has manners... we should abandon ours too!!

I live in DC and any major city people tend to be super anti social, purposely CLOSE the elevator door even though they see you 5ft away coming for the elevator, and neighbors rarely say hello.
I open the door for everyone and anyone, hold the elevator for everyone and anyone, and I say hello to my neighbors (they reply back by staring at me confused or just grunt). People in the city suck balls.

Do you open doors for girls?

Depends how much I want to bang her.

Agreed with most of the people here, I usually just open the door for anyone who's either ahead/behind me. Don't really feel the need to be thanked for it though, it's only opening a door. Usually people who can really use the help (people carrying stuff/grocery, with kids) will almost always thank me.

I do.

A, you're doing them a favour, and b, you're not their servant.

Not thanking someone for holding the door open for you is downright rude.

DavidQD 06-07-2012 09:07 PM

I think most people do not thank because they are half-asleep.

Seriously, if you watch people, most are just going through motions.

"Through the motions." "the" is very important in that phrase, otherwise it sounds like they're searching through piles of shite. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/laugh1.gif

On topic.

For me, it depends on my mood that day. If it's good, i'll hold the door open and do it with a smile. If not, i'll wait until they are almost close enough to grab the door themselves, then let it shut on them. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/devil1.gif

That's a really bad character failing. Oh, I'm in a bad mood so I'm going to take it out on everyone else.

BWJfEkOB 06-07-2012 09:51 PM

I'm in the "open the door for anyone near or wait for the person behind" group.

I was at a cafe the other say and saw a guy stand in the doorway talking to his mates outside (glass door and glass shopfront). A women approached and as she got to the doorway he simply walked out towards his mates and let the door shut behind him. She was pretty miffed as he timed it so it almost hit her in the face, and let a few choice words go. She was right to be angry, I would have been pissed if he did it to me and was angry just watching it happen.
