Got a call from the Marines

The Marines target people they already expected to be gay.

Ouch, man. I'll have you know I'm straighter than laser pointer http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/angry.gif

Yeah, they kind of are dickheads sometimes. ugh, 18 year olds. have they no shame?

It is kinda funny actually but I do think they shouldn't have done it. I'd rather the military spend its time and money trying to recruit people who actually have a chance in hell of actually wanting to join.

The Marine Corps does not have an ROTC program. NROTC students can opt for a Marine option but still have to go to OCS.

And if you're seriously inquiring about the recruiting process, I can answer your questions but you seem to have no interest in actual facts.

Just another in a long line of threads belittling the Corps http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/angry.gif
I'm not trying to belittle the Corps. Personally I think the marines are pretty cool. http://www.discussworldissues.com/im...ons/icon14.gif This actually happened, and I'm actually curious. I freely admit I don't have the balls to be a Marine.

Army recruiters, especially, are notorious for finding some way (probably pilfering high school directories http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gif) to contact 18 year olds. And as soon as you show any interest, they show up at your house unannounced and everything.

The Army goes all out. The Marine Corps not so much.

Why wouldn't they call people who are on their list? Apparently military recruiters have to work hard to find enough suitable people who meet admission criteria.

The recruiters for the Canadian troopers calls Asher every day, knocks on his door, sends him flowers and chocolates. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/biggrin.gif
It was not the Canadian Forces that tried to recruit me, it was CSIS. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/doitnow.gif They knew my talents would be wasted as cannon fodder.

And no, it's not just sign me up and the bus leaves in an hour... you first have to have an interview with your recruiter to determine your eligibility and if you're truly interested in joining that particular service branch. This is where all legal, medical, education, etc. issues are initially explored and discussed. Then you take a practice ASVAB test to determine roughly where you stand and what sort of military occupational specialties may be available to you. A few days later, you head off to Military Entrance Processing where you take the official ASVAB test and go through a bunch of physical tests to see if you are medically qualified for the military. This can be a long process as you will have to gather your medical history, may have waiverable conditions that may require quite a bit of legwork to clear, etc. Many people spend months at this stage. Medical is no joke.

Your ASVAB score determines what MOS's you are eligible for and you sign your initial contract at this point once you're cleared medically. You then enter the Delayed Entry Program until you ship to boot camp which will probably be sometime a few months later.

Then you go back to MEPS, get a final clear (for the Marines, you have to take an initial PFT http://www.discussworldissues.com/im...ons/icon14.gif), swear in, and ship out.

The process for Marine officers is a bit different, though. The above applied to enlisted.

Do you get to pick where you go into? Like if you're good at fixing cars and computers can you choose to fix tanks OR computers or do they just shove you wherever they have room?

Well ****. They probably signed me up for that too.
There is also the

- national guard

That's a little extreme. It's a prank, one they consider harmless. It's not harmless, but it's not enormously harmful either.

Wow, giving someone's name to a navy recruiter sounds like a pretty lame prank.
Not nearly as lame as this troll. Seriously dude, you suck at it.

Darn. That actually sounds like a sweet gig http://www.discussworldissues.com/im...ons/icon14.gif

One thing very telling about the difference between the branches is, you go to goarmy.com and you search through careers first:

http://www.goarmy.com/careers-and-jo...-and-jobs.html

Go to Marines.com and nothing about jobs is anywhere on the site. Tells something about priorities.

All Marines are riflemen http://www.discussworldissues.com/im...ons/icon14.gif
Army, they're cooks, electricians, etc. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/bored.gif

I'm not particularly familiar with the gay brothels around here. In fact, I don't think I know of any. I'm also not terribly eager to go searching for them...

It's mind boggling to me who really joins the military and wants to make food! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...milies/huh.gif Go figure.

Umh, it is a job that has respect and a career path.

BTW I am not ex-military and have never had the slightest interest in enlisting.

Would you reject a call from a more prestigious organization than the Marines such as Interpol or the Mossad?
