As only I can do, on the mens league we play 9 each week. A number of weeks ago we started off on a Par 5, 475 yards so not very long as par 5's go.
![]() Shot 1 - Snap hook out of bounds to the left Shot 3 - Slice right in thick rough side hill lie feet below the ball Shot 4 - slice right, out of bounds Shot 6 - slice right out of bounds Shot 8 - place it about 100 yards from the green Shot 9 - sand wedge past the green Shot 10 - flop on the green Shot 11 - putt Shot 12 - putt ![]() the best part about this was that the guy I was playing against shot a 13 LOL |

So after todays round I thought I'd start a thread for people to vent and to entertain people with. This thread will be for your disaster hole only. And here are the rules:
So here is today's disaster hole for me. The par 5 13th hole at Williamsburg Country Club measuring 470 yards. I know that doesn't sound like much but here is the kicker. At about 250 yards from the tee there is a giant oak tree that covers half of the right side of the fairway, so you are left with the option of trying to hit a high ball that carries the tree or shape a shot through the narrow gap on the left side, plus the the entire hole is lined with 100 foot pines down both sides of the fairway. If you manage to navigate around/over the tree and try to go for it in two you have a shot a little over 200 yards and the direct line to the green has another tree blocking the green and a bunker about 20 yards short as well. The ideal way to play the hole is get around/over the tree on the tee shot, then lay up down the left side to about 60-70 yards(or closer) and you will have no tree/trap issues. This is how I played it. Big tee shot in to the wind, I attempted to fade around it only to hit it straight down the left side. I was under the trees with a clear view of the green. I had about 220 left in to the wind so I tried to fade a 3 wood around the tree/trap guarding the green only to pull hook the shot, hit some trees and drop 80 yards out with a clear shot to the green. I attempted to hit a little baby PW and just laid the sod over it and hit it about 60 yards, just short of the green. The ball settled in a semi-muddy lie so I tried to bump and run it and caught it thin and it rolled off the back of the green. Now I am short-sided with nothing but the "flop" option. I attempt to flop, chunk it, it hits the bank and rolls back down same lie. I then thin it over the green back to the same spot I chipped from a few shots earlier. This time I try the putter but just crushed it and it ran off the back of the green to almost the same flop lie. after 3 chunks of the lob wedge, I finally hit one that ends up on the green 20 feet passed the hole and 2 putts later I walk off with my 13!! |

My most memorable blow up hole.
Winning the tournament coming to hole 8. The hole is a dogleg right. Par 5 around 550 yards. I try and cut over the trees and hit it too far into the further trees past the fairway. I hit a provisional and hook. I lost that ball in the trees, I think I was hitting my 5th or 6th from around 300 yards. I hacked my way down to get a 13 on hole 8. |

Mine is the par 5 fifth at Mt. Hood in Melrose. DD and SoxnGolf probably know what im talking about too. Its 500 yards with a dogleg uphill. The teeshot you need to be either infront of or next to a large pond(getting next to it is near impossible because of the way the tees are positioned near the tee box. Then it is straight uphill with more trees guarding left side to a small green that has trouble on all sides. Just a ass kicking hole.

Call it what you want, you have the option not to post here. I think most would hardly consider a bogey or a double a blow up hole. I cant think of any holes on the courses I play that I ever really have problems with. The course I play on most of the time has a 180 yard par 3 with an island green. There is a fair amount of rough around the hole and the green is pretty wide, so as long as you distance is fairly accurate its not a difficult hole. Beyond that, I cant think of any courses around here that have holes that I would feel the slightest intimidated by. Its just a matter of knowing what the safe miss is, focusing on your target and executing. ![]() |

My disaster hole(s), regardless of where ever, or what ever hole I am playing usually starts with a poor drive, that causes me a penalty stroke. My home course has out of bounds on the left on 18 holes, and water hazards on the right on 15 holes. The other 3 holes on the right are a waste area strewn with rocks, and boulders. (unplayable lies) So accuracy is a must on this course. The best way for me to play this course is to leave my driver in the bag, and go with my 3 wood. I shot an 80 last week, but had two 7s on a couple of the par 4s. One on each 9. Both due to errant drives with my driver It was in my bag, so I figured I might as well put it in play on a few of the longer holes. Dummy me

Had a couple blowup holes today, but this one was the worst. We played at Heather Glenn just North of Myrtle Beach and my worst hole was the par 4 tenth hole.
The hole was probably around 350 yards uphill, and a dogleg right. I chose to hit driver and sliced it to the right in to the trees. I was unable to find it and due to the course being packed the option to go back to the tee isn't an option when playing down here. So I dropped about 200 yards out as I figured that is about where it entered the trees. I had to hit a fade to carve it around the trees and I struck it well but didn't know if it was enough to get there. We drive up to find my ball in the front part of a stacked sod greenside bunker 12 feet below the putting surface, there was no way I was going to get out of the bunker going forward without hitting the lip of bunker as it was almost underneath it. The option to blast out sideways was ruled out as there was another stacked sod bunker on both sides of me. So I ended up chipping it to the back of the bunker to give me room to hit out of it. My next shot I duffed about 4 feet in the bunker, the next shot I flew over the green, then my chip was long and ran through the green back in the same bunker I started in.... Per our bets we had going on a player just picks up at double par, so I then picked up the ball in the sand and took my 8. Ugly hole!! |

I have at least one of these blow-up holes seemingly every round.
Today's flavor - 1st Hole at Perdido Bay Golf Club - 340 yd Par 4 The first hole at Perdido is a short Par 4, 340 yards with water up the right starting at about 250 from the tee. First shot - Trying to play somewhat smart, I decide I am going to hit a 3 wood off the tee to make absolutely sure I don't bring the water into play. Of course, I hit a weak fade off the tee and leave myself about 170 to the green (from the side of the ninth fairway). Second shot - Hit a decent (for me) 4 iron that leaves me in the greenside bunker. Uh oh, time for the fun to start. Third shot - Flub the bunker shot, stay in the bunker. Fourth shot - Gonna get out this time, and do...blown over the other side of the green. Fifth shot - At least I'm out of the sand now. Down below the back of the green. Stub the ground behind the ball on the chip, goes about 10 feet. Get to chip again. Sixth shot - Better chip, gets on the green, finally. Seventh shot - Putt stops on the lip (first of four times today)...why not?? Eighth shot - Tap in. Always great to start with a quad!! ![]() |

Aw cripes man, I rack up blowup holes like no other.
Last summer I had the worst one ever at Mansfield National. It's a 430 yard par 4, pretty straight, slightly down hill. Fairway's about 50 yards wide the whole way down, with heavy timber on both sides, and lots of brush on the right. 1)I topped the ball off the tee, and it dribbled down to just in front of the ladies tee, 2)so I get out my hybrid, and I was so embarassed by the bad tee shot, I shanked my hybrid into the brush on the right. 3)I found my ball, and I've still got 150 to the green. I try to punch it, and it takes flight, hits a limb, and goes further into the brush just ahead of me and to the right. 4) Another punch shot, which I topped, and it dribbles a few yards out onto the fairway. 5)I'm still 125 out at this point, so I swing an easy 9 iron, caught it thin, and it goes skidding across the green, and into the heavy brush on the backside 6) punch out of brush, and it comes up short of the green in the tall rough a few yards off 7) try to play a flop, caught it thin, it rolls off the front of the green 10 yards 8) chip it up onto the green, it goes about a foot onto the green 9) I've got 50' to the hole, so I putt it, and come up 15' short 10) it looks downhill, so I go easy on it, come up 5' short 11) putt it past the hole 12) calmly picked up my ball, and threw it as hard as I could into the brush. I called it a 2' gimme just to stop the nightmare. I was so pissed I couldn't see straight. I was playing with my brother, and 2 other guys that we got paired up with, who were single digit handicappers. They were just shaking their heads in disbelief as I flubbered my way around like I'd never played before. |

I played the new Greg Norman Course on Sunday and of course the first hole is a par 5 567 yarder. Tee-off, got under the ball and skyed it 200 yards. 2nd shot, hooked a 3wood into the woods - lost ball. Dropping 3, hitting 4 in the thick rough, got under that and moved it about 20 feet. 5th shot hooked into the natural grass, OB. Dropping 6 hitting 7 into the greenside bunker. 8th shot on to the green but hit it short. 30 feet from the hole and 3 putted for an 11... On my worst day on a par 5 I usually get an 8!!! I will still go back and play that course to get my revenge!!!
