I think that the correlation between distance and skill isn't always there, assuming people are playing the right tee boxes. However, it think it's easier to get good at the game if you hit the ball farther.

Here is my best guess based on markers at the range with full rollout

Driver: 255-260 (265-270 rollout)
5 wood: 215 (220-225 rollout)
4 iron: 195
5 iron: 185
6 iron 175
7 iron: 165
8 iron: 155
9 iron: 145
PW: 125-130
GW: 100
SW: 75-80

Driver: 250
4 wood: 235
3 hybrid: 215
4 iron: 200
5 iron: 190
6 iron: 180
7 iron: 170
8 iron: 155
9 iron: 145
PW: 135
50*: 110
56*: 95

These are estimates since I rarely GPS shots. I've also lost some distance lately due to my back bothering me and my shafts being a bit too strong for me.

Edit: I have no official handicap. I average in the high 80s lately.

Wow, last year I could have done all of these without any thought, but with the final swing changes, I've added more distance to my clubs. Add to that my rarity in actually hitting some of the long irons on my home course, but here goes.

Driver - 255-260(carry) 290 (roll out)
3wood 15* - 245 (carry) 260 (roll out)
3iron 20* - 210 (carry) 225 (roll out)
4iron 23* - 200 (carry) 215 (roll out)
5iron 26* - 190 (carry) 210 (roll out)
6iron 30* - 185 (carry) 200 (roll out)
7iron 34* - 162 (carry)
8iron 38* - 150 (carry)
9iron 42* - 138 (carry)
PW 47* - 120 (carry)
SW 56* - 100 (carry)

Handicap is probably 16-18 over the past month, but it has been as good as 12 this year. A very inconsistent year for me.

I'll also add that 1) some of these distances are estimated based upon known clubs and how much the loft should alter distance. Also, I get pretty incredible rollout at my home course, mostly because it is rock hard and there really isn't grass anymore.

with all of the threads on this same subject, I am not going to list everything. But I. Like to plan on 240 yards of driver carry. 150 yards of carry with my 8 iron. I am a mid handicapper. I do not believe there is any correlation between distance and handicap. Even though lower cappers can put more consistent swings on the ball so they tend to be a little longer.

This...except while I have more than enough strength for 280-290+ drives, my average drive is closer to 270. And I use a 4W instead of a 3W so it's closer to 230. The iron distances are spot on to mine.
