that flop shot was supposedly the shot of the tournament?
First of all, have you ever even TRIED to lob a 64 degree wedge? And then try it off a surface that is as tight and hard as a pool table? And then in the direction that has a water hazard not far behind the target?
Frankly, I don't think anybody has ever hit that shot in the history of the game.

oh I am sorry Ben Hogan have I somehow offended you? I practice the flop all the time, of course it never works when I try it in game, but since I have had kids I dont get out nearly as much as Id like. if I can flop on a practice shot, little old me that doesnt hardly get out much I would expect that any pro with a little practice could add that shot to their repertoire. and it doesnt matter if there is water behind the pin, an old lady or Ming vase, its a hard shot regardless.

Dude, Phil Mickelson is the only person who does that.

Ben Hogan, indeed...

Like I said, Phil is a witch at this. I honestly think he made an excellent shot on 15 saturday. But by Phils standards it was probably average.

check this out.

with any shot within your range you always hope its as close to the pin as possible. they both did the same thing, put the ball where they hoped it would end up. if bubba could just magically put every ball exactly where he wanted it, there would be no reason for a playoff.
And that's where luck plays in. Oost's hit the green like he wanted and found the bottom of the cup, whereas Bubba's hit the area of the green he was aiming for and didn't find the cup.

Oosty hit a terrific shot, probably right where he intended, but it is pretty obvious that the final result required some luck. The ball was on the ground for over 90 feet and could have hit a spike mark or ball mark to knock it off line. Or maybe a spike mark or ball mark knocked it ON line, who knows?

I certainly think it is obvious that luck was required for that to find the cup, but apparently fahvra doesn't. To each his own.

bubba wasnt hitting a straight shot either, so he couldnt expect it to go in. if you want to call oosts shot luck for going in the cup then bubbas has to be luck that it even made it onto the green.

personally I think it would be much easier with a 64 degree wedge than it is with my 9 or pitching wedge.

and fuck you, you fucking golf snob.

How is it luck when you hit the exact shot you intend and it lands in the area you intended it to land? Both were very good shots that landed where they wanted them to land and then Oost had luck on his side to get it in the cup. If Bubba's had hit the bottom of the cup I'd say the same thing.

oost hit a shot with half the loft of bubbas shot and much more distance, of course it is going to roll once it hits, a ball that is coming virtually straight down is less likely to take a big roll. both were incredibly tough shots, if you going to call one luck, you have to call the other luck too.

It doesn't take a golf snob to know that NOTHING is easy with a 64 degree wedge, which is why Mickelson might be the only one on the planet who knows how to use one. I will bet that he was the only one who had one in his bag this week at Augusta.

Now, go get a six-pack and drive a golf cart drunk around your muni, why don't you.

One shot is hit where intended, then rolls 90 feet and goes in a 4.25 inch diameter cup. The other shot is hit where intended.

One thing is not like the other.

You can have mine, it cost me at least two stokes over the front nine on Saturday.

I love my 64 and for me anyways it is nearly impossible to hit it out of the rough because I usually go right under it. I have to use it on the fringe or fairway.

Then you must do what Phil does and shave every bit of bounce off the sole of the club. His is like a razor and it's really the only way to do what he did successfully.
And then you must hit hundreds of balls to get it right, right?

My shots don't look like the one he does. My swing is significantly smaller around the green and the ball doesn't go nearly that high. I use it from about 65 though and that shot goes plenty high.
