Default Pressing Issue
Hey Gang:

So I managed to get out and play today. I never thought that I or any of my golfing brethren from the northern climates would have a chance to play golf on January 6th. In exactly one month I'll be jumping on a Southwest flight departing Buffalo, NY bound for West Palm Beach at 6:05 a.m. I'll be travelling with new irons, wedges and bag. Today, I decided that I will not take the RIFE on this trip as I'm not comfortable with it. I think right now it's a feel thng after rolling it outdoors today on greens. I have good distance control with it.. just the feel makes me feel uneasy. So I'm taking my Odyssey. Reliable little guy.

My issue I suppose lays within my situation with woods. I really don't know which woods to take. I have recently filled the bag with DET driver, fwy and hybrid. I've had the chance to get them out on New Years Day and today. Results are decent although the conditions have been tough. Either cold, windy and rainy. Or cold and windy. From a driver standpoint the accuracy of the DET driver early on has been fantastic. In fact, I am somewhere in the neighbourhood 19/21 for fairways hit through 27 holes played with it in the bag. I love the numbers but I'm just not sure where my heart or brain is when it comes to feel and distance. The DET fairway has been rock solid from the fairway as it's the only place that I've used it... except for my opening tee shot of 2012 where my adrenaline caused me to swing too fast and top it just past the forward tee. (ouch!). But what a recovery with it.

Waiting in the wings are the woods that I finished 2011 with. TaylorMade Burner SuperFast 2.0. I used the driver in one competitive event that saw me lead the field in driving accuracy at 84.6% and the results with the hybrid and fairway have been decent as well. I know that I prefer the feel of the TM woods more than the Callaway woods.

I think I might have room in the bag for both sets of woods to travel... so I will likely take both and test them there. I guess my question for my fellow THP members is this. Say your accuracy numbers are good with both drivers and the difference in yardage in woods is say... 5 yards or less. But one has a better feel in your estimation... what woods do you take if it turns out you don't have room for two sets of woods in your bag?

Alex

(I'm just curious... I will say that I have about 10 more rounds in with the TM over the Callaway)

The yardage distance seems to be very small compared to having a club you would be more confident using because it has better feel. All things being as you stated, I go with the best feel every time.

The the SF man, you've got some rounds in with it and you prefer the feel.

PS Enjoy the trip!!

Think you just answered your own question unless you are trying to gain another 5 yards.

Take the ones that you are most confident in. Keeping it in the short grass is prime!

Hey Alex, by the time you get to West Palm the new RBZ's will be out. Why don't you pick up one of those in FL? :-)

LOL.. oh man. Talk about really confusing the issue. At that point I really would be. I dunno if I were to get something new... I think I would go Razr Fit. Don't get me wrong I love my TM sticks. Love the feel. The other pro is that I know what they give me in fair weather so it might boil down to just knowing what the clubs give me and then consider the full change come late spring/early summer. I wanna play real well down there (think it goes without saying) but my season really begins in mid/late April when things up here get rollin'.

I want to thank everyone thus far who has given me input. For the record, I had a chat with my coach this evening and he would also like me to game the TayloMade woods as well.

I would love to give up five yards to be in the fairway 85% of the time!

Took my TM SF 2.0 woods out for a walk today. I was 5/7 fairways hit with them... and the 4 wood did pretty good from the deck. I have noticed something. My 2.0 driver at 9.5* launches higher and has a higher ballflight compared to the DET at 10.5*. Overall the accuracy numbers are good either way... with the DET 90.5% (19/21). The SF 2.0 is 71.4% (5/7).
