Played nine holes Saturday and Sunday. Wasn't too cold, mid 50's both days, but the wind...damn. Gusts in the mid 30's and higher.
I was on pace both days to break 40, but holes 7 and 9 would have no part of it. Seven is a short par 3 over water. From where the markers were, I usually hit a pitching wedge (140 yds). With the wind, I went with an 8 both days...no way, it was like running into a wall. At least I didn't go in the water, the wind moved the ball several yards right, so at least I didn't have to take a penalty stroke. Nine was directly into the wind, par 5 and i double bogied both days. Why is it that if I play the ball factoring in the wind, the wind doesn't effect the ball flight at all, and I'm really off the fareway/green, but if i don't, the wind takes the ball and i end up with the same terrible results? |
