Default a big Fuck You to the PGA of America
so a few weeks ago, i get my monthly email from the minnesota golf association with my handicap revision. they also have some advertising, so i check out a link for buying tickets to the 2009 pga championship, which is at hazeltine in minnesota. i go to the site, and notice a link for volunteering for the championship. i says to myself, that would be a great way to spend a week of vacation, working for the pga at a course not far from me. after submitting my application, i'm told i will receive more information in the near future.

fast forward to today...i open my mailbox and see a package from the pga. i'm instantly excited and tear it open. inside i find a letter and a dvd. the letter begins, and i quote, "You must be wondering why we send you Lowering your score: the complete short game and Off the tee: maximum distance & accuracy?" you're damn right i'm wondering, i volunteer to help your association and you monkey fuckers send me a dvd and tell me if i don't return it within two weeks i'm going to be billed for it?

now don't get me wrong, it's probably not a bad dvd and i'm even considering taking a look at it. but seriously, someone wants to work for you, for a week, for free, and you say fuck let's stick this clown with a series of dvd's that we can make money off of?

those cocksuckers better choose me to volunteer next year or i'll never forgive them.

That's horseshit, but I don't think they can make you pay for something you didn't ask for. They send it to you unsolicited, it's yours. That is, of course, unless you checked off some tiny little box on the app allowing them to send you promotional products on a trial basis.

Otherwise, tell 'em to kiss your ass.

I received the same DVD, with a return envelope if I didn't want to keep it. I didn't ask for it, why should I have to go through any trouble? How are they going to charge me for it?
I gave it to my neighbor, who needs the help anyway.

They mentioned in the letter that I had no obligation. It's kind of an honor system.

They can bill you for it. When you don't pay, they can report it to the credit bereaus.

I'm not saying you should be scared, just telling you what the standard policy is with that shit.

I never asked for it so they gave it to me, IMO.

Once you're on the credit collection agency's hitlist, there is no escape. Be forewarned. I would have sent it back 100 times over out of this fear...and called them and chewed their asses out for sending it.

Ok, well in Ole's case, he was told to return it or he'll be billed.

And in his case, if he doesn't pay, they'll turn it over to a collection agency, and if he still doesn't pay, they'll report him to the credit folks.

I bet that half these places' businesses come from Columbia House and BMG...

I'll bet if looks a little further into it that he got the same package that I did. The opening of the letter sounds the same.
But I will say that I am starting to feel guilty about keeping it. I'll have to see if I threw away the return envelope and get it back from my neighbor. He's had it for three weeks now and I doubt he's looked at it.

so an update, a few months ago i was informed that i was chosen to work at the championship in the health services department. basically it sounds like my job is to drive a golf cart and transport handicapped people from parking lots to their seats, and people having medical difficulties to first aid tents. sounds pretty tits.

anyway, today i got an envelope for volunteers. i'm expecting some more useful information. instead, inside i find seven flyers from sponsors. umbrellas, shoes, windbreakers, shit like that. apparently as a volunteer i can get 20% off of all the overpriced shit. whoop dee fuckin doo.

As an update, the PGA never insisted that I owed them money for the DVD, but they kept sending me guilt letters about returning it if I wasn't going to pay for it. Last fall, after the season, I got the DVD back from my neighbor, watched it to see if there was anything in there helpful (a few tips on the short game were interesting) and sent it back.

Son I don't think someone with your bad attitude should be driving WWII vets with no legs to their seats. You'll probably throttle the old guy for not getting out the cart fast enough.
