Default Coach Dumps Daly Because 'Of The Alcohol Stuff'
http://www2.tbo.com/content/2008/mar...?news-breaking

John Daly has been cut loose by swing coach Butch Harmon, who said Tuesday he was not going to waste his time with a two-time major champion who is more interested in drinking than working on his golf game. "My whole goal for him was he's got to show me golf is the most important thing in his life," Harmon said from his golf school in Las Vegas. "And the most important thing in his life is getting drunk."
Harmon said he has worked three times this year with Daly, but he said Daly's behavior at the PODS Championship was enough to end the short-lived relationship.

I think he's the one guy who could have given Tiger a run. He's mentally a two year old though. But the guy can hit a golf ball, and his short game was usually A+. And he had the fans on his side. His biggest problem is his ego and his immaturity.

I read this article this morning.

THis is John Daly for ya. Could be one of the top 3 golfers in the game if he wanted it. But he'd rather act like Ron White. Not that there's anything wrong with Ron White, except that he's not trying to be a pro golfer.

Maybe John Daly should try standup.

And it's so stupid. I remember him trying to argue that he played worse when he sobered up. It's all in his head.

While I don't doubt what Harmon says is true, isn't he walking a fine line between giving his reasons for leaving Daly and making libelous comments about him?

Certainly this information could deter potential sponsors from getting involved with Daly, which would hurt his ability to make a living. I wonder if Daly could bring a defamation suit against Harmon for this, assuming he is thinking clearly enough to do it.

What do the legal heads here think about this?

It's not libel if it's true.

"The most important thing in his life is getting drunk"?

I dunno, pretty bold.

It's a pretty strong statement, but it may well be true.

I don't know if this is true either, but someone on Bob and Tom said he goes through one of those two-pound bags of peanut M&M's, too.

Plus all the cigarettes. Freud would have a field day with Daly's oral fixation.

He failed to show up for the pro-am at Arnold's tournament today and has been disqualified for the championship. What a waste of talent.

No.

Actually his biggest problem is he suffers from the disease of alcoholism.

if you're getting drunk on rain delays, you have no room to argue. besides, his way of earning a living wouldnt be in danger if he wasnt gambling and boozing it all away. guy has already made more money than most will ever know. if he loses it, fuck him, i have zero sympathy for another loser who takes talent for granted.

When told of the news, John realized he now had more money with Harmon no longer on the take.

"Hey bud, let's party!"

His ego and immaturity have driven him to a dependency on alcohol.

I get the impression he's a nice guy. I'm not talking about the ego that tells everyone that you're better than them. I'm talking about an ego that tells himself that he's invincible and can destroy his body because he's well liked and can hit a golf ball a mile.

One of these days, he's going to kill himself with this crap. It will be a tragedy, up there with Len Bias. This guy's behavior is a cry for help that all these millionaires on tour ignore. Or at least it seems like they ignore it. We don't see the behind-the-scenes stuff, so maybe they've tried to intervene.

His dependence on alcohol wasnt created by ego. John is an alcoholic.

Ego and maturity or the lack thereof have nothing to do with it.
