Why I Keep Going Back

Every round it seems like there's a shot that gets you to go back and play the next weekend, no matter how bad you did. I shot 84 yesterday, my new swing is slipping away from me, good thing I have a lesson Tuesday.

Anyway, on 17 I hit driver because the wind was blowing pretty good in our face. It's a dogleg right. My buddies didn't clear the ditch guarding the fairway so I figured I'd better hit driver. Killed it and it went through the fairway beside the back of the 14th green behind this tall tree.

One group of the A players who play behind us was on 14. One of them says "Look like you've got a dilemma". I was 135 yards out.

I knew a pitching wedge was the biggest club I could clear the tree with, so I decided to use it and come up short, chip on and try to make par. There was a lull in their action on the green so I told them heads up in case I hit the tree.

I hit that Titleist right square in the nuts, 10 feet from the flag. I got applause from the players on the green, along with several "Damn what a shot" exclamations.

Of course I missed the putt.

I putted pretty good, but I missed that one. The greens are infected with poa annua and they're damn slow. At least I putted good on the back 9. I didn't miss anything under 6 feet on the back.

My buddy constantly outdrives his Pops by 100+ yards but loses his ass in the short game.

This would be my world.

I'll tell ya what's fun times... hitting on the driving range around a bunch of people who are just terrible. Here I am just striping my driver and three wood, along with every other club, while everyone else is hacking and shanking. At times I had groups of people watching and "ooh"ing.

If only golf could be played on the driving range instead of actually having to putt too.

I'm the opposite of that. I generally work on too many things and have too many thoughts on the range, and I embarrass myself. When I get on the course I clear my mind and hit the ball.

Have you finished the lawn or torn the Saturn apart yet?

You know how there are driving range players? Guys that pipe the ball on the range and not on the course? That's not me. Whatever i do on the range i do on the course. Whatever i do on the practice green i do on the course. (hit the ball well on the range, hit it well on the course, putt poorly on the practice green, putt poorly on the course.)

although, saturday was one of my best driving range session ever. Everything was just going perfect.

What's your USGA handicap, Ryr? Going up, down, or staying the same?

Mine has hovered between 10 and 12 over the last few years. I made some changes this year, and I'm hoping to get to single digits for the first time.
