Default Nicklaus to hang it up after British open
http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=2061483

I agree its time. I don't follow golf that much, but when you can't compete in the tourney you are playing in, it is time to hang it up. He has been great for the sport, but it is time to move on. Golf now has Tiger, Ernie, Vijay, Phil and others to carry them.

At least Nicklaus was able to hang in there sometimes...he was even on the leader board at times in some tournaments, most notably in the Masters a year or two ago.

Now Palmer, who is about 10 years older, seems to be the one in denial. A great, great player in his day, but he's just flat too old to be out there anymore. I think he finally realizes it.

i hope not. He reminds me of this guy we will call Jerry, Jerry Rice. He once was the measuring stick for WR in the NFL, and now he is nothing more then a stick. Hanging on way to long after most if not all of your talent is gone. Please do us a favor, hang it up. Stay at the 19th hole!

i don't think Palmer did it to try and be in contention so to speak. I think he did it more as a chance to give his fans another chance to see him out there. I suspect Jack will do this as well. He knows he can't get it done anymore, but he also knows that he has lots of fans that love to see him play just to see him play no matter how he shoots.
