Went some with my parents when I was young - loved riding in the cart. I hit some balls and played a little, then got more serious in Jr High. Played on our local course which is a little 9 holer without irrigation on the buffalo grass fairways.

The nice thing is it was cheap. Even today I think the annual fee is $300, and daily fees are $10 for all-day play. I would have not been able to play as a kid if it had been more expensive.

My 1st exposure was in the 70s - I was a starter at the Playboy Club resort in Northern NJ for my high school & college summer job. Didn't play any golf, putted a lot (the practice green was right in front of the cart garage) and met lots of colorful characters.

Zoom forward 35 yrs and you find me in a little town in TX looking for something to do while I look for work.

Boom! Golf... This time it hooked me. Its been one year that I've been thinking, reading and typing golf and have played about 6-7 months of that year.

You worked there? That's right near me. They closed it down but there is still a golf course on that property I believe. Pretty cool.

Ottumwa Golf and Country Club in Iowa. I was probably 4 with my mickey mouse plastic clubs. I started taking lessons with real clubs about pre-school though.

I started playing golf at Melrose Golf Course. It is a par 3 course in the "hood" of Houston. Green fees were cheap and the longest hole was 140 from the tips. Great course to learn a wedge/short game. I played that course so many times my first few years of learning. I guess that explains why I can't drive the ball too well

Safari Golf course Chanute, Ks the summer I turned twelve. My folks took up the game the prior year, (in their early forties) and wanted me to take group lessons to see if I liked the game. I've played off and on ever since.

In High School in Caney, Kansas. We had a 9 hole course with SAND GREENS!!! I wasn't on the golf team, but we learn the fundamentals from the golf coach who was also our basketball coach and also Biology teacher.

Yep, I worked there back when it was new and bustling. Good to hear the course is still there (was 27 holes back then if memory serves).

Very cool. It's still 27 holes up there called Great Gorge.

I started playing when my dad brought me to the range and the course when I was 14. So I've been playing for 4 years now. First round was at a small local track called Culver Lake GC.
